2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumMy pilgrimage to Free Republic...
I scout the place to see what is up in Freeper land.
This main topic over there is of course Hillary. Id say that about 90 percent of the threads at FR are anti Hillary.
I am so glad for DU and it's safehaven for real Democrats.
So to Free Republic...FUCK YOU AND YOUR ANTI-HILLARY HORSESHIT!

I wonder if she supports the same candidate?
I imagine there's quite a bit of cross posting between the two sites these days.

(17,505 posts)I doubt that.
There are plenty of Clinton supporters here to red bait.
Besides, freepers... they can't wait for her to run. They've been storing up ammo just to do that for like a decade now.
They don't know what to do about Sanders. There's no absurd irrational hatred of him over in Freeperland.
You left these facts out of your cute little thinly disguised dig on Sanders.
Of course if some conservatives (probably not freepers tho') were to vote for Sanders in the general (they won't vote for a Clinton) it may just end the constipation on Capital Hill the GOP created.

(800 posts)with checking out what they have to say. It's interesting how many posters on Republican sites have the same disillusionment with the establishment force feeding them agendas paid for by big money as the left.

(57,349 posts)And lying about him constantly, it's just despicable.
All kinds of anti-Semitic posts accusing Bernie of being a shill for Israel, being a Soviet sympathizer and even being supported by Stormfront!
Unbelievable the things you read.
There, the things you read there.
Just want to clarify.
Good thing the good liberal Democrats here would never post hateful bigoted things about Bernie.

(12,655 posts)i pop in from time to time to see what they are saying about the dems. i am always surprised at how little they are talking about either one.
basically,
trump is great
trump sucks
cruz is great
cruz sucks
rubio sucks
jeb! really sucks
obama is a muslim/kenyan/traitor
isis
megan kelly
guns
God
occasional refs to dems
i have been visiting more in the past few weeks and that seems to be the general topic list
Jim Lane
(11,175 posts)At one point, it seemed that what really animated them the most was immigration, but that gave way to their denunciations of "perverts" and their enablers, their enablers being just about everybody to the left of Ted Cruz.
Once the Republican nomination contest got underway, that naturally became the main topic.
The OP, in claiming 90% of the threads are anti-Hillary, is simply not truthful. They talk more about Hillary than about Bernie, but that's because most of them think it's pretty much certain that Hillary will be the nominee -- a trait they share with most of her supporters here.
They consider both Democratic contenders to be socialists and will use that word in the general election campaign regardless of whom we nominate.

(12,655 posts)some of them sometimes go with commie but they have described both of them as such. and how could i forget homophobia and those damn (mexicans, muslims, etc ) immigrants? i guess after i have been there, i feel a need to purge my mind....

(45,984 posts)I am not so morbidly curious as to frequent FR in order to read it's members' its nonsense at Hillary Clinton and any other Democrat.
When the Freepers talk about Mrs. Clinton's sins, they mention things about how she was a working wife and mother (gasp!), how she murdered Vince Foster (really?) and made it look like suicide (Oh, horrors!) and lets not forget how she led terrorists int the US consulate in Benghazi (ooohhh!) and personally murdered Ambassador Stevenson (Oh, sweet Jesus! Of what other offenses against God and country could this woman be capable?) They'll also talk about her emails (Good Lord!), but we''ll wait and see if anything comes out of that. It might even turn out to be something bad, but it's a cinch not to be nearly as bad as the wet dreams that those right wing morons have about it.
DU is a safe haven for real Democrats. Here, we talk about things that Democrats should be concerned about, like her coziness with Wall Street criminals, price gougers from Big Pharma and other enemies of the American middle class, and concerns about her past misjudgments about foreign policy, which echo in her current pronouncements on current foreign events. Some try to paper over such matters as if they are virtues and not, in fact, actual concerns, but most of us know better.
So yes, I am delighted this is a safe haven for real Democrats to discuss Hillary's real flaws rationally and not just make up shit about her like they do at FR.

(11,175 posts)I occasionally visit FR. I have not seen one single post there that criticizes Hillary Clinton for voting in favor of the Iraq War Resolution. I have not seen one single post there that charges her with excessive coziness with Wall Street. I have not seen one single post there that attacks her for being too conservative on health care.
And so on.
On both sites there are a handful of non-ideological posts that could be interchanged to some extent. Both sites have carried discussions of the email issue -- but hasn't she herself said that she made some mistakes in that regard? The difference is the intensity, with the Freepers taking it as an article of faith that a Republican who'd acted as she did would have been indicted long ago, but the Obama (or, as they like to write his name, 0bama) Justice Department will of course give a Democrat a pass. I haven't seen that spin on it at DU; it's certainly not widespread. DUers who raise the email issue are more likely to point to it as a possible November liability, just as the Clinton supporters point to Sanders's use of the word "socialist" as self-description.
Overall, I'm giving your attempted equivalence a Mostly False, and I think even that is erring on the charitable side.
Incidentally, attacking people who disagree with you (in this case, Sanders supporters) by lumping them in with certified villains (in this case, Freepers) is not a new tactic. It's called McCarthyism.
Cary
(11,746 posts)I'm not surprised. Freepers are stupid but apparently know when to sit back and let radicals destroy the party from within.
After all they have been doing that for 8 years.
Jim Lane
(11,175 posts)Criticizing Clinton for votes she has cast and positions she has publicly espoused is indeed more effective than charging her with Vince Foster's death or Benghazi malfeasance or the like. That's because the arguments in the first group (the type seen on DU) are based on facts.
If you consider criticism of a candidate during a primary campaign to be "trash talking" that threatens to "destroy the party from within," would you apply those phrases to Clinton's infamous 3:00 a.m. phone call ad against Obama in 2008?
