Hillary Clinton struggled Wednesday night through an answer about the large paychecks she received from the investment bank Goldman Sachs for several speeches, arguing they would not corrupt her judgment when it comes to regulating the finance industry.
During a CNN town-hall event Wednesday night, moderator Anderson Cooper asked Clinton whether she had used poor judgment by accepting $675,000 from Goldman Sachs for three speeches. The Democratic presidential front-runner said she was simply following the footsteps of past secretaries of state.
"I dont know. That's what they offered," she said. "Every secretary of state that I know has done that."
When Cooper asked how she thought the speeches would appear during a presidential campaign, Clinton suggested she hadn't thought about such implications because she wasn't sure whether she would run for president.

(3,226 posts)I feel that Hillary has the capacity to focus and accomplish what ever job she takes on and would make a good administrator but she is one of the worst campaigners in the Democratic Party and if it was not for having been the first lady of President Bill Clinton and the chance of becoming the 1st woman President she would have never gotten this far as a candidate because she can not stop lying. Hillary's lack trust worthiness will be her down fall ether in the primaries or heaven forbid in the General Election if she gets the nomination. There is no way we can win back the Senate or even keep the White House if she becomes our candidate.

(800 posts)and there are ways to inoculate her against that but her campaign isn't doing it.
Her supporters need to be out there stressing who she is one on one, her command of the issues and so forth. That she wouldn't have gotten this far as a mere former first lady. That she was the cream of the crop and put her own career on hold to be with her husband in Arkansas. But they have to be scrupulously forthright that she is still developing as a politician, and at all cost avoid the kind of sycophantic wholesale denial of obvious facts that remind people of the scandal defense strategy of the '90s.

it feels good to know that either candidate will do me proud.

(22,340 posts)This was not in that category. This was FAR too naive for Clinton the former Secretary of State. "They just offered it to me so what was I supposed to do?" Come on. She's smarter than that.

is because of statements like "I dont know. That's what they offered". Or the classic, "what, you mean with a cloth?". She is "wicked" smart when its in her interest, and just a naive waif when deflecting legitimate criticism.

as a Democrat, liberal, and progressive I find that type of characterization for any of our party elders to be offensive. Someone who can call Hillary that really doesn't make Bernie look as appealing by association.

(2,495 posts)I am one of the strongest proponents of single payer universal health care that you can imagine. I believe it is a right. I'd like to understand how it will get passed through a republican congress - even if they were in the minority but could filibuster. Hillary tried in 1994 - she went up against the lobby and they spent billions and in the end, the house and senate went republican and universal health care was abandoned by the republican.
I would love to see people who keep attacking her - reminds me of the republicans against Obama - answer any questions directly and honestly - with the intent to actually get something passed into law.
99th_Monkey
(19,326 posts)But I appreciate that you favor single-payer. So do I, very much, esp. since I'm personally now in
a situation where I've been waiting months for a heart valve surgery that I need, but my health
insurance co. has been jacking me and my doctor around about it, saying they won't cover it for
inexplicable reasons. THIS would not be going on if the insurance companies were not the 'decider'
about my health care needs. It should be between me and my doctor, period.
I don't think it's an 'attack' to point out a candidate's donor base, the people who most want
"their candidate" to win, and show their support by shelling out money -- sometimes in the
millions -- to 'make sure' they are elected.
There's nothing personal about that. It's a widely-held view and common sense no-brainer
observation that a politician's donor base reflects who they most represent once in office. Why
do you think people donate $million$ to politicians anyway? .. just to be 'generous'?

(256 posts)He is such a nice man, but after last night it is clear to me he is not president material. I really like Bernie, how can you not? Hillary made him look small and ill prepared for president, not on purpose but because she is such a better candidate who is realistic.

(7,661 posts)she will get things done since she is a progressive that gets things done. 2) Then Hillary tells us we all should fear the republicans if they win because they will do what they want. 3) Hillary tells us when it comes to Bernie he will never be able to do anything he would like to accomplish. Get my drift??????
