My Republican neighbor told me this morning she wasn't voting for Romney.

One thing, I make a point to never talk about politics with her because I know she's total Republican and there's really no point. She calls me when she needs something small fixed around her house and I always oblige but avoid political conversations. This morning, she called me to help her do something and while I was there she told me her brother explained to her that Romney wanted to dismantle Social Security (he's also a Republican) and that he would wait to do it after he was elected. She said "I cant vote for that!". She said she was not voting for him. I was stunned because usually she just talks about whatever crazy thing she hears on FOX News or whatever.

Oh well, I'm still in shock.

Is she voting for Obama or not voting at all? TheOther95Percent Sep 2012 #1

Obama appears to have an insurmountable lead. If the conservatives give up on Romney and stay home we might be able to take the House.

Maybe the subject will come up later and she'll tell me. I'd really be surprised if she did vote for President Obama because of what she's said about him in the past, but maybe she will.

I don't discuss politics around my neighborhood because I'm a total liberal Democrat and I live in an area where there aren't any. George Bush won my county by 60% and Alabama is definitely not a swing state.

I volunteer for the democratic party, participated in marches in town, registered voters at schools in my area, volunteered as a poll watcher etc......I just do not talk politics with my neighbors.
Anyway, we'll see.

And the polls are starting to reflect that. Mitt has done a lot of damage to himself with comments he has made, the release of the videos, the gaff over Libya/Middle East and it has taken a little while for that to all start to come together. With his appearance on 60 Minutes last night and comments he made and the discussion of those on all the news talk outlets today, I think his slide will continue.

Last week as I watched clips of that horrifying video got played over and over, I felt like that would seal his fate. Some tried to minimize the impact of the videos but I know how I felt watching them and I am no fan of Romney. If a person was planning to vote for him and watched those videos, I cannot help but believe that was a gut punch to at least a portion of them. It was a betrayal of what they thought they knew about him. I cannot imagine anyone hearing those tapes not being hurt, disappointed and confused. And there is no good way to spin it. It was about as plain as it could be stated. Mr. Romney simply does not have any regard for those who not rich. Mr. Ryan echos that feeling. That leaves his voters and supporters no where to go but away from the voting booth.

I suspect that many of them will not vote at all since I think many probably detest Obama and just won't be able to overcome those feelings in order to vote for Obama. On the other hand, if there are viable 3rd party candidates, they might go for that. No matter. Mitt loses either way.
