Poll: Romney leads 2-1 in Michigan

Detroit Free Press:

WASHINGTON – Mitt Romney’s position to win the Michigan primary – already strong – may have gotten stronger in recent weeks.

MIRS, the Michigan Research & Information Service, reported Wednesday that its latest poll shows Romney with a 2-to-1 lead over all his competitors for the Republican presidential primary in the state, set for Feb. 28.

Mitchell Research polled 638 likely primary voters in the state last Thursday, two days before the Nevada caucuses – which Romney won – and five days before Tuesday’s three-state sweep by Rick Santorum in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri.

The poll showed Romney with 31% support, compared to 16% for Newt Gingrich, 15% for Santorum and just under 15% for Ron Paul.

Gee, if I were Mittens, I wouldn't be happy. Once again he's performing below his 2008 result (39%) and is tied with the two "not Mitt" options. And in another state where they "know him well"....

4. Probably no republicans in Detroit

Or any of the major Michigan cities, therefore they don't have the same effect as other states like Ohio where the cities have heavy influence on voting.

Probably rural farmers who tend to be republican and could care less about Detroit.

Far away from Detroit with a healthy distate for the big city (except for the Tiggers and Lions). This is also the state of the DeVos clan...big within the party establishment and close to the Romneys.

3. This poll was taken PRIOR to CO, MN, and MO?

And MI is THREE weeks away? That makes it next to useless. And you know how accurate the CO, MN, and MO polls were.

Looks like it's time for the DU3 debut of

"GET THEE BEYOND ME, POLLS! UNCLEAN! UNCLEAN!!!"

My guess is that Santorum is now ahead of Newt. Though he certainly can't match Mittens dollar for dollar.

paid attention. It seems like Santorum would be a dream candidate for them.

6. Stale. Anything prior to Tuesday's results is meaningless.

I suspect if the poll was done today it would be tied or Mittens with just a slight lead.

romney's general trend line is going down, indicating very soft support, and that was before he was handed his lunch already eaten by Santorum
