Why The Polls Under State Romney Voteby Dick Morris
Republicans are getting depressed under an avalanche of polling suggesting that an Obama victory is in the offing. They, in fact, suggest no such thing! Heres why:

(785 posts)At this point, should the Republicans be stupid enough to try to steal this election with their "electronic voting machines", I think the American people would be in the streets all over the Country because they would know how wrong this is. Maybe then, we'll finally get rid of these UNVERIFIABLE VOTING MACHINES and go back to paper ballots.

(3,888 posts)morris suggests that the polls reflect the 2008 voter turnout when they should be figured using the 2004 turnout numbers. according to morris, if the polls used the 2004 voter turnout ratios that romney would be ahead in all the polls.
if morris is right we'd better make sure that every one, who voted democratic in the 2008 election turns out and casts her/his vote for obama and other democrats this coming november.

(99,708 posts)I think the 04 election was the first election in recent history where Democrats and Republicans made up equal parts of the electorate. It was +4 Democratic in 00, even in 04, and +8 in 08. I suspect it will be somewhere between 00 and 08...

(34,857 posts)It's not 2004. Demographics have dramatically changed in the past eight years. To use 2004 voter turnout trends is absolutely positively stupid and no reputable polling firm would ever dare do that.

As Obama has oscillated, moving somewhat above or somewhat below 50 percent in all the October polls, his election likely hangs in the balance. If he falls short of 50 percent in these circumstances, a majority of the voters can be said to have rejected him. Likely a disproportionate number of the undecideds will vote for McCain.

No one who voted for McCain will vote for Obama this time. But if just three million people who voted for Obama in 2008 either sit this one out, or votes Republican, Romney wins handily. Remember, Obama didn't beat McCain by all that many votes.
Obama won by ten million or so votes, you f--king loon...

(2,068 posts)I'll never forget my tea bagging brother and his absolute certainty that somehow McCain would win. And then the devastation at how they could've lost to a guy named Barack Hussein Obama. It was fucking AWESOME! I didn't talk to him directly. It was all relayed through my cousin. My brother and I avoid anything political to keep the peace.

(3,072 posts)And reassure your base that there is still a chance that your candidate can win, it is pretty much game over. I don't see many left leaning columnists saying "i know it is really hard to believe but Obama could still pull this thing out."
