Clinton Raises Hell Over Flint Water Crisis During Debate

I thought the debate tonight was excellent, and I'd be proud to support any of the three candidates on the stage as my candidate in the general election. It was chock-full of substance and policy, with sharp disagreements on how to approach policy questions.

There were a few personal attacks, but most of them were the result of moderators trolling the candidates for some drama, and were still handled with class.

But I have to wonder why on earth NBC ended the debate 7 minutes early with all those commercial breaks, without asking about some critical issues. There were no questions on education, immigration reform, and there wasn't even one single question about the poisoned water in Flint, Michigan.

Do you feel the debate questions are intentionally asked in such a manner as not to highlight how much of a difference the Democratic candidate's ideas are verses the GOP's policy ideas?

1. Sen. Bernie Sanders also had to bring the subject up on his own since the media is not asking

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), at the top of his closing statement, mentioned the situation in Flint and called for the resignation of Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R).

4. Hillary mentioned it before Sanders because she spoke before Sanders.

None of the candidates mentioned it before the end of the debate since they were following the debate topics, and when the debate moved to closing statements and gave the candidates a chance to speak about everything else that was on their minds.

But lets not let facts get in the way of a good spin

That said, Sanders was the first of the two - and still, the only one - who called for Snyder to resign over this disaster. So no he didn't 'echo' Clinton.

I guess you did not see the same debate I did. Hillary did mention it before the end of the debate.

But don't let your hero worship get in the way of the facts.

Guess what was happening at around that time during the debates?

Oh yeah, closing statements...

Hillary Clinton became the first presidential candidate of either party to mention during a debate that the people of Flint, Michigan... In her closing statement during Sunday's Democratic debate, she went on to highlight some of the things her own campaign has done in response to the crisis.

I've reviewed the transcripts for the debate as well. The first time 'Flint' is mentioned is at the end, after the moderator called for closing statements.

13. Hillary didn't bother mentioning it during the main debate either...

...Because both candidates were staying on the topics as set by the moderator. When they were given a chance to talk about anything else that the debate didn't cover, the first thing they both said something over was the disaster up in Flint.

and learning that there was still no real plan in place for Flint residents, I was so angry I couldn't think straight. I said to myself that whichever candidate addresses and takes action on the matter would get my vote. Period.

It looks like Hillary took action to get those people immediate help while Bernie called for Snyder's resignation. Different approaches, but I'm a results kind of gal. And Snyder needs to be arrested, IMO.

corrected him. But I'd have to watch the whole thing over and I would not put myself through that again.

Just about everyone in the debate thread I was following (on another forum) was really happy she brought it up since it wasn't a topic. Between President Obama rightly declaring it a disaster area, Sanders calling for Snyder's resignation, and then Clinton using her debate closing statement to give her support, hopefully Snyder can be shamed into resigning. It's good for all of them to keep the political pressure on. Snyder and his cronies have caused possibly irreparable damage Flint.
