Warm weather to arrive abruptly in the East this week,
but may just be a tease for some.
The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast could see cool, damp weather return for a time early next week.
'After a persistent stretch of cold and dreary weather for most of April and May to date, much of the Eastern United States is about to feel a summerlike reprieve — at least briefly. Building high pressure will bring sunshine into the weekend, with temperatures near or even above seasonal norms — a stark contrast from the cool, damp dankness that dominated the Northeast for upward of a month.
The impending warmth will be accompanied by an increase in humidity, but also a few warm-season thunderstorms.
It’s quite the dramatic turnaround for places such as Washington, D.C.; Boston; Philadelphia; New York, and Chicago, all cities that saw below-average temperatures and above-average precipitation throughout April. It’s a trend that continued into May, even coming with a garnish of snow in the Northeast — a cruel joke by Mother Nature. The National Weather Service in Binghamton, N.Y., dubbed it “winter’s last laugh.”
However, especially in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, the switch to a warm pattern may be rudely interrupted by another stint of cool, damp weather Sunday into early next week.'>>>
