I truly did LOL when the Witnesses left this. Guess they're going for the young white girl crowd or ? Sorry about the giant size - still getting the hang of things.

(17,505 posts)Not really.
Here're some beardless Jesuses....some with long-ish hair, some with short...
here's a later one... Caravaggio... Jesus is on the right... with long hair.

Actually I didn't mean to get all picky. It's actually interesting how depictions of Jesus turn out.

(80,708 posts)To have hair, one needs a head. And a body.
And a physical, literal existence.

(17,505 posts)I agree... sorta. I think there is an historical Jesus (or "Jesuses" .... he's just not the one in the book....
Like the Mahabharata and the Iliad... it's based on... something.... that really happened.

(115,103 posts)Leaving aside the debate as to whether Jesus existed, even mythical figures come to be perceived by different groups as having varying personality traits, physical characteristics, mannerisms, etc.
The physical existence of a thing is not necessary to recognize such characteristics (e.g. unicorns look like horses and have one horn).

(9,356 posts)It reminds me of the campaign in the UK a while back. The subw...er, Tube and buses were decorated with posters of a Tragically Hip Jesus. Caption: "Meek & Mild? As if!"
This was horked up with all the usual hoopla about how the staid old Anglican Church was connecting with modern youth; it would usher in a new Golden Era where younger people would come flocking back into the churches, etc. etc.
If you think that's what happened, you should probably be in the Religion group, writing press releases about the exciting resurgence of America's liberal Xian denominations.
(That's a generic "you," and certainly not directed personally at the OP. Just to be clear.)
As usual, the campaign was a giant flop and was flushed ASAP.
