A rise in fair play, or simply a step of intolerance too far?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=profile&uid=113955

I'd LIKE to think it was the former and the admins finally tired of persecution complexes, special pleading and haughty claims of protected opinion status for religions.

I SUSPECT it's because he made one stereotypical comment about gays and that the hundreds of worse ones about nonbelievers were responsible only for building up an even larger sense of entitlement than is normal for "persecuted" Christians that made him overconfident in his carte blanche to demean the "other".

But I'm known neither for optimism nor deep insight into DU powerplays so I welcome thoughts from others on whether this may actually be a turning point.

1. Seemed to follow the pattern of a similar religious disruptor who was also banned.

Kurmudgeon or something like that. Bashed atheists and whined about persecution of Christians for a very long time. But what finally put him over the top was calling pro-choicers "baby killers" or some such.

So I am inclined to agree with what you suspect, rather than what you'd like to believe.

Isn't it funny how those tend to go hand-in-hand with being a theocrat.

He quickly got back on my DU3 ignore list after the switch because I just couldn't stand the bullshit.

I'm so torn - DU3 has brought the demise of so many long term DU assholes, but at the same time it's harsh on a lot of innocent people too. For now I compromise by posting and countering the assholes, but refusing to donate until rules & the jury system are improved to better safeguard minority rights.

I do have to say that I'm encouraged by the fact that people are finally getting banned for what they've gotten away with for years.

I've only ran into that guy a handful of times myself, but the experiences were far from pleasant, and I can't say I'm sad to see him go at all!

4. To be fair, I think that we atheists just don't COMPLAIN as much as some other groups.

I think that his recent shit-stirring with us was part of
why Skinner finally banned him.

I'm just glad he's gone.

I hope for good.

He caused A LOT of trouble for the Feminist's rooms.

Another thing I'm not known for is keeping track of individual posters, especially over time.

I should have said that he only made one insensitive post where atheists were not the target that I was aware of. I plead ignorance of other wrongdoings by the departed poster.

Sly and pretty adept at causing a ruckus.

I had a "friend" like that once. He used to go to parties
and wait for a moment to drop a bomb on someone, then
watch "innocently" while havoc ensued.

I never noticed it until a boyfriend of mine pointed it out
to me.

He told me just to watch him, that eventually he would
tell someone something that would start trouble.

Along the lines of telling a woman "Hey, sorry you broke
up with Rick...." and the woman would say, "I didn't break
up with Rick!" and he would say "Well, I saw him having dinner
with Wanda LaRue at Big Boy's last night, and I assumed...."

When "Rick" walked in the door an hour later....FIREWORKS!!!

I was more amused, and I definitely wasn't surprised at his reaction, the interesting thing was I didn't personally attack him once in the thread he started last night.
