about the rod and the staff "comforting" you. That David knew how to turn a phrase. Keep in mind he hung around with a lot of sheep and King Saul whom he comforted with his lyre playing and singing.

that if there is both a rod and a staff it would have to be two guys?

A staff and a cup would be straight?

the rod is a thick hardwood thing used to clobber predators. The staff is a lighter softwood thing used to chivvy the flock along the trail and keep them from wandering off. The crook at the end is used to grab errant sheep and bring them back.

on a few occasions I found myself comforted by both at the same time. Felt like hell the next morning, and sitting wasn't the most comfortable thing, but we all bear our own crosses.

your mileage may vary, however.

RODS
Rods are scepter-like devices that have unique magical powers
and do not usually have charges. Anyone can use a rod.

STAVES
A staff is a long shaft that stores several spells. Unlike wands,
which can contain a wide variety of spells, each staff is of a
certain kind and holds specific spells. A staff has 10 charges
when created.

You have to be a Wizard or Sorcerer to use a Staff. Any Joe Schmuck can wield a rod.

You need to get out and study the books some more, there dude...
