Connecticut Florist Delivers Flowers To Atheist Teen After Four RI Florists Refuse
Connecticut Florist Delivers Flowers To Atheist Teen After Four RI Florists Refuse
The Cranston prayer banner debate shifts to flowers as businesses refuse to deliver to the teenage girl at the center of the battle. The Freedom From Religion Foundation in Wisconsin had to go out of state to find a florist to deliver flowers to the Cranston West teen, after four other Rhode Island businesses said "no thanks" to the order. Co-owner of Glimpse of Gaia Florist Sean Condon, drove all the way from Connecticut to deliver the flowers to the atheist teen who won the lawsuit against her school over a prayer banner. Cranston West was ordered to take the banner down. It's temporarily covered, pending the school committees decision on an appeal. Condon said, "I think we don't discriminate against people for any reason." The anti-religious group wanted to send Ahlquist congratulatory flowers, but four different florists in Rhode Island refused. 1. Freedom from Religion Foundation described as "anti" religious?
Other than that, I think the article was a good one.

2. And now that florist is getting harassing phone calls
Sad--and more than a little aggravating:
A Warwick florist had agreed to the order, but later withdrew. Ending the flower efforts with Sean Condon. He says almost immediately after delivering the flowers he started receiving harassing phone calls. |

3. Ah the religious bullies can count yet another notch on their belt of..
intolerance.
I'd sure like to see a few of these bullies charged in court for some of their actions. It would be nice to see a few Christians go to jail for a few days. I know, I'm dreaming. |

5. What would you propose they be charged with? Being assholes?
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but refusing to deliver flowers to someone because you don't like them isn't a crime.

7. Threatening or harassing someone doing their job
would be a place to start.

9. How is refusing an order to deliver flowers "threatening or harassing someone"?
If you're speaking of the phone calls the florist has received, calling someone up and telling them that they should be ashamed of themselves for delivering flower is annoying, but not exactly a crime.

13. If they're from the same party, yes.
I haven't seen anything that indicates this is the case.

4. But, but but...
The atheists are the ones here who are the bigots. Really guys, I have it on GOOD authority that atheists are to blame for this travesty...

11. If God is all powerful, he does not need help defending himself
This violent backlash is the antithesis of what religions stand for. I don't comprehend how people can be so insecure in their faith that they have to threaten violence or direct anger at those who do not share their beliefs.
