Atheists & Agnostics
Related: About this forumSorry, but losing patience fast
with trolls and sock puppets from Religion coming in here to push the envelope. Especially when they run back to Religion to call out this entire group for not letting them post whatever the fuck they want in a safe haven.
At least one immediate ban is in order, and others should be considered, IMO.

(111,245 posts)Banned posters can still read the group. They just can't participate.
Nothing stops them from reading posts here and then tattling over in religion about how horribly offended they were by the existence of people who haven't been bullied into agreeing with them.
One of them not only admitted to trolling, he also called out a specific poster. I see the post has not been hidden. The jury system is totally broken when it comes to religious axes being ground.

(13,029 posts)But there should be zero tolerance for disruptive posts and flamebait, especially given recent events.

(7,886 posts)and thus goad us into saying something in a place where our guard may be down is a plus, I think.

(111,245 posts)However, persecution is such a core concept to Christianity that they'll still alert troll in here.
I keep trying to clue them in as to who the real enemy is and I've seen other people trying to do it, too. Maybe it's something we have to remind them of constantly until they finally answer the clue phone.
ETA: Al Jazeera had a great article about why Christians feel so persecuted when someone says they don't believe a word of it: http://america.aljazeera.com/opinions/2014/3/christians-persecutioncomplex.html

(22,340 posts)Let's see how it plays out, please. The A/A hosts are doing what we can from our end. I am trying to get the Religion hosts to do what they can from their end given the recent postings. The other hosts here and I have overtly been OK with people venting about what's happening in Religion, but hopefully we can keep it here, please.

(13,029 posts)And I apologize if it seemed like my impatience was directed at them. It was really directed at the people coming in here to deliberately disrupt. I do think a clear message needs to be sent, though, and banning posters even for a first offense will do that.

(22,340 posts)My fear is that if things get ugly, it is going to be atheists that get banned from the site. I am aware of our standing here and know that those in the Religion forum will not feel any negative outcome from a heated battle. I (we) lost a host and friend on DU and I don't want to lose more. That's why I posted what I did.
And we did move pretty quickly on this ban. As for the other one you alluded to, there is a standing short-leash vote among the hosts.

(9,288 posts)People are really just going out of their way to piss on our safe haven now. They are adults, they know full well what they are doing is not okay.
Just pushing this thread back up top. It's sort of getting lost in all the resurrected zombie threads and I think it's important.
Rainforestgoddess
(436 posts)It might explain the lack thereof...
skepticscott
(13,029 posts)Denigrating and stereotyping. By an apparently new, allegedly atheist, and very argumentative poster here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1218&pid=129240
Mining this safe haven for things to bash us with elsewhere seems to be getting more popular all the time.
LostOne4Ever
(9,288 posts)And that poster has done it again and again and again. Going outside the A/A into unprotected areas of DU to bash us in unprotected areas of DU about what was said in what was supposed to be a protected safehaven.
Here they are doing it again in general discussion in a (what a surprise) a bash the atheists thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=4923024
Now I am not saying that I think this poster is fake atheist, just that I think he is about as much of an atheist as the Pope or Billy Graham...

(9,288 posts)they are bumping threads telling us to calm down after a blocking, as well as necroing 3 year old threads by blocked members calling us militants after being told several times its not cool to call any atheists a fundamentalist.
Obvious troll is obvious.

I'll continue to be the grumpy bad old atheist at the Seder wondering why we are celebrating a genocide.

All those necro-threads were starting to get annoying. He also smelled like socks.

(4,549 posts)It seems like somebody might be attempting a forum slide to bury important discussions. Let's keep these threads kicked.
