I'm sitting here wasting time with the TV on, and just caught an ad for a new series on the ID Channel.
"Sinister Ministers: Collared" starts May 27 at 10 PM.
The ad showed clips of some favorite perps, like Jimmy Swaggert. Whose epitaph should be the line delivered by his favorite hooker: "He was not only kinky, he was cheap too."
I'm really looking forward to this one. It will just be icing on the cake if it draws a lot of moaning and whining from the Usual Suspects for "making believers look bad."
For newcomers in here: I'm one of the few males I know who will admit to being completely addicted to the ID Channel, "Snapped" on the Oxygen Channel, and the sleazier Lifetime movies. (Not the Rom-Com variety, though. I hate that crap.)
I guess this is not so weird. Here's a free doctoral thesis for somebody: years ago, all the good crime stories ran in the pulpy "men's true adventure" magazines. Those pulps don't exist anymore, so now we have to get our men's true adventures from the TV channels catering mainly to women.
Well, I like that theory anyway.
And if you see any TV shows about my favorite perp, Celeste Beard Johnson of Austin, TX, drop me a PM. That story has EVERYTHING: a gold-digging country club waitress, twin daughters who burned Mom by turning state's evidence, an elderly 400-pound sugar daddy, and a lesbian with a shotgun. If Raymond Chandler or Agatha Christie had written such a story, it would have never been published. Too damn unbelievable.

Now if you tried to do a show called "Tea Party Smartie", that would be a challenge.

(12,153 posts)I'm looking forward to Sinister Ministers too. The narrator said the devil made them do it.
I'm addicted to ID, and I also watch other channels that have true crime shows. I can hardly wait for the new season of Cold Justice to begin the end of May on TNT.

I have seen the Snapped episode about Celeste Beard Johnson, and here it is on You Tube. The case is a real mind blower!
EDIT: More free downloads of the Celeste Beard Johnson Snapped episode:

(9,356 posts)"She Wanted It All" by Kathryn Casey and "The Fortune Hunter" by Suzy Spencer.
Both are lurid, voyeuristic, bottom-feeding and sleazy. Which is just another way of saying "Fantastic!!!"
IIRC, Casey has the eye for telling details like "the tight butt on the police officer." While Spencer told the heartwarming family story about Mr. Beard demanding "the Sunday Suck." Which is just exactly what you think it is.
Celeste has written her own e-book, which sounds as predictable as the New Testament. Her constitutional rights were violated and she's innocent, dammit, INNOCENT! Think I'll give that one a pass.

I usually can only find these sort of religious creep stories on the occasional episode of American Greed and various ID shows (I thought Sins and Secrets would have way more fallen religious leader stories than it actually has).

(9,356 posts)When I saw the first ad. "Hmm. Wonder if Mr. & Mrs. TDC know about this? Maybe not, better send up the Batsignal!"
ID Channel recently had a show called "The Preacher's Passion." About a preacher who came out here to Los Angeles, acquired a girlfriend who was a stripper and former porn star.
She ended up apparently beaten to death. But he got off thanks to some dodgy scientific testimony from a defense witness. After he was acquitted, turns out that testimony may have been wrong. One of the female jurors said she's still haunted by the idea that she may have turned a killer loose.
This preacher liked to tell the Story Of Jebus using interpretive dance and a mime act.
Based on those horrifying facts alone, I would have given that bastard the death penalty.

(1,918 posts)(You know, for balance). Turns out there are a lot of good ID shows he's been watching without me. He asked me about you a couple if weeks ago. I think he referred to you two as LMN brohams. Go figure!

She had been confronted by her killer as she prepared for that days services. Pahl was choked to deaths door, jabbed mercilessly with a letter opener, and then sexually violated. She was found with an altar cloth shrouding her torso.
It was a ritual murder with hallmarks of pathological rage.
Among 31 stab wounds, nine punctures over her heart formed the outline of an inverted Crucifix, a demonic symbol. She had been stripped below the waist and defiled with a cross.
The homicide was unthinkable. Who would do such a thing to an elderly nun?
Convicted priest asks for new trial:
I wonder if he got a new trial, and if he did what the outcome was. If the case is featured on "Sinister Ministers," maybe we'll find out.
EDIT:
At least one book has been written about the case:
Sin, Shame, and Secrets: The Murder of a Nun, the Conviction of a Priest, and Cover-up in the Catholic Church David Yonke
