'Brick' of original Earth returns

April 29: Astronomers have found a unique comet, a rocky fragment of material that had formed the Earth, which has returned almost intact after spending over four billion years in outer space where it was deep frozen.
"This is the first time we're seeing one of the bricks such as those that formed the Earth, preserved since the Earth's formation," Olivier Hainaut, a member of an international team of astronomers, told The Telegraph.
"It was preserved and unchanged. It has now returned: we see it almost unaffected," the Belgian astronomer from the European Southern Observatory (ESO) added.
Hainaut and his colleagues described their findings today in the journal Science Advances.
The rocky comet C/2014 S3, the astronomers believe, is a fragment of the material that formed the inner solar system bodies, including the Earth, about 4.6 billion years ago.
