I called the vile veterinarian that had refused to treat my horse to ask her to take me off her mailing list. I had hoped to leave a message on her answering machine, but unfortunately she answered the phone. When she asked me why, I said Algiers is dead, I put him down. I won't be needing her services anymore.

I just got an email from her. That vile, despicable disgusting excuse for a human being had the fucking gall to suggest I put him down unecessarily due to possibly misinterpreting his lab results.

WTF?!!!!!?!!!!! FUCK HER FUCK HER FUCK HER. SHE WASN'T THERE. SHE REFUSED TO BE THERE. 2 OTHER VET HOSPITALS AGREED WITH ME -- AND CONTRADICTED HER INSISTENCE THAT HE WASN'T COLICKING. BOTH CALLED IT A MILD, CHRONIC COLIC WITH AN UNDERLYING CAUSE.

WE WERE UNABLE TO GET TO THE UNDERLYING CAUSE BECAUSE WE RAN OUT OF FUCKING TIME. SHE WASTED A MONTH OF HIS TIME AND SHE FUCKING HAS THE GALL TO WRITE SUCH A THING TO ME.

I don't see any reason for that email except to make you totally upset and I can see the effect it is having on you. Delete that email and block her from sending any more to you. She has no business contacting you after you asked to be removed from the mailing list. To do so is unethical and unprofessional. Take my advice; be very nice to yourself today. Mourn for the loss of your beloved horse. Have a great big hug from somebody: Most of all, whenever the thought of that vet comes up in your mind, mentally tell her that she is nothing but a memory and the memory is fading.

and you need to take the gentlest care of yourself that you can.

I do not agree with reporting her to anyone (soon) as doing that will resurrect the whole thing up again and again with every interaction.

Maybe in time you could take that on. But my advice is to not add any more burdens to yourself.

Your story made it sound like Algiers KNEW and was READY. She wouldn't know about that! Algiers made his peace. Thank the stars that woman was not involved in his transition.

I agree with Why Syzygy. You and your other friend have both had horrible experiences with her lack of response to your sense of urgency, that resulted in the death of a beloved pet. And now she wants to diagnose from afar? this looks like professional ineptitude and butt covering, all at her customers expense, and for your friend legal issues as well. At least yelp her for the next person looking for help, to be forewarned. No one deserves this treatment. Unsafe is all over her. I'm sorry you have this to deal with on top of your loss.

I agree with the others..report her and then do whatever you have to do to let it go. It is totally unprofessional to send you such an email after you had already told her you had put him down. And it is BEYOND cruel for her to say it suggest you may have done it unnecessarily. No one in their right mind would imply something like that knowing it is only going to cause more pain. I had something similar happen about 8 years ago to my beloved dog Maggie. We almost lost her to a stupid mistake made by the vet. Then he tried to blame me for the incident. I reported him promptly, anywhere and everywhere I could. Today she is a happy 16 year old who thinks she's around 2..lol. Clear your energy a lot over the next few days, you'll feel a little better. I wanted to call her up and scream bloody murder at her, but instead I vented here. Thanks to all of you, I deleted the vile message, found the filters and blocked her from emailing again. I went to bed and cried, from exhaustion and simply because I miss my boy's presence. I know I did right by him, I struggled so much with the decision, my wants and dreams for him versus his needs and honest situation, right up through waiting for the vet to arrive.

I am surrounded by wonderful memories of him, in his smiling photos, in the barn I built for him, in his brushes and blankets, in Dahli, in my heart.

I haven't made a decision about filing a complaint about her, but am reluctant to for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that I don't want that woman soiling his memories again. Her history, now that I know more details about her, also makes me reluctant to tangle with her. I thought she was from "away" but have learned she is originally from these parts and has relations down the street from me. Already I have found a cigarette butt behind my garage on top of fresh snow, so I know somebody was poking around within 2 weeks of Algiers' passing. I assumed it was the neighbor across the street, but who knows. I will be padlocking the gate from now on. Also, she is literally the veterinarian to the Rockefellers, who have a facility up on Bald Mountain, so she will have strong backing and protection from the state. However, I have added this to my log that I kept throughout his illness, so should push come to shove it is in my records, along with a string of other "odd" happenings.
