Ask any two atheists what "atheist" means and you're bound to get at least two definitions. n/t laconicsax Jan 2012 #10

that Vishnu guy, or Mars, or Thor, or any of them.

Seems like their high school textbooks all told them that those gods were only "myths"

So my Christian friends were mostly 99% or more atheists

Not only that, but there are at last count over 7 billion gods on the planet, and I believe in them all too.

I know it's hard work, but somebody has to do it...

In fact, I'll go one better: even (especially?) subatomic particles are divine. That's why E=MC^2 works - it's the release of divine energy.

Don't make the mistake of thinking I'm serious.
But also, don't make the mistake of thinking I'm joking...

To be an "atheist" means that you don't believe in any gods. If you believe in at least one, but not others, than you're not an a-theist at all. You can be a non-believer with regard to specific, individual gods, but I don't think "atheist" is the best term to apply on a god-by-god basis.
