The experts are right. The Texas dove season has been very good.
Second trip to my buddy's place NW of Austin where I have taken double-digit numbers. The birds crowd power lines along highways, and explode from graded roads by the dozen. Some puzzling behavior of the 2 main native species: I took a half doz white wings (normally a tropical species) from or around trees, yet minutes later I took only mourning dove feeding on sunflowers a couple hundred yards away. Haven't figured that one out yet. It's been great fun, and my host is contemplating another day of shooting at his place in Oct.

3. My hunting buddy is perfecting a dove dirty rice recipe...
which calls for sauteing the tiny giblets -- livers, gizzards, hearts -- along with wild rice.

2. I don't like dove...tastes like liver to me..
I like to hunt them but will only go if I'm with someone who likes them..
After hunting doves all season, when pheasant season opens they look like slow moving airplanes..can't miss |

4. For some strange reason I've gotten better at shooting at flying dove
as I have gotten older, eyes and all. I am a firm believer in improved cylinder & #8s with a little extra oomph for propellent. Rio shells are popular here.
You definitely need other hunters -- the birds were coming in all directions. But I like liver! |
