While aero superbikes have dominated headlines of late, the weight-weenie wars have continued unabated. The latest contender to enter the ring is Fuji, which just launched an all-new machine called the SL under the slogan “Worth the Weight”. The new bike takes over from the Altamira as the company’s flagship climbing platform. It’s making its pro race debut at the 2015 Vuelta a Espana, with four members of the Caja Rural-Suguros RGA team set to ride it.

The headline figure for the new bike is 695g – that’s how much a size 56cm frame weighs before 45g of hardware and paint are added, and the top-of-the range SL 1.1 claims to tip the scales at an amazing 4.95kg / 10.91lb. Bear in mind that under current rules, that puts it 1.85kg below the minimum weight allowed in the pro peloton. (Although we’re assuming the figure doesn’t include pedals, which admittedly narrow the gap a little.)

if the bike shops would let us even sit on a bike like this they would probably sell lots of them but they keep them out of touch .

I 'm real happy with my cheesy carbon fiber bargan bike that weighs probably 20 pounds but I can dream .............This is why they call it bike porn or Road Bike Action magazine ...you have to shave your legs to even look at the super bikes .

2. I thought you would get a kick out of it.

I just received the Shimano Ultrego 6800 group set and wheels this morning. This will be a learning experience for me to dismantle a perfectly good bicycle and reassemble it with new gear. All my former experience in bike maintenance and repair has been with cup and ball bearings and everything that goes with that. I need a few items like a new chain breaker for the 11 speed narrow chains and a cable cutter and chrimper. I have everything else I think, but as Doris Day sang, "The future's not ours to see."

I know what you mean about super bikes, I've never seen one that didn't have a rider on it. This old fart is not gonna shave his legs to get a ride on one.
