1. That was nice to see. I've thought the umps were killing the Nats all series.

5. I don't know where he was supposed to run, he's right handed and ran straight to the bag.

Is he supposed to run into the left hand batters box and go from there?

9. He's supposed to run to the outside of the bag at full speed and break his ankle

Iíve gone CT with these umps. Theyíre all angry white guys who want to stick it to the Nats because their hero got booed.

11. That could be, at least one of them is an idiot and should be fired. Do they really think

a Trump loving umpire would be fair to minorities?

12. I'm fairly displeased with a variety of calls

Past two series of the Stros ... double ball widths away from the plate, sloppy. That batter interference seemed exotic, and frankly, the Astros donít need any Ďhelpí.

15. I'm getting that picture

I donít like it. Nope.

Do you know how their numbers are chosen? Was having issues with #88, Eddings the other night.

But anyhow, I donít like exotic calls.

10. Thanks. I like the Nats.

I always want a fair game. That was just odd. Stros are my team, but dang, I donít like seeing BS interjected into a game.

17. About the need to run between the lines...

Runnerís Lane

The purpose of the three-foot wide lane (aka 45í lane) along the last half of the distance between home and first base in foul territory is widely misunderstood. It only applies when the ball is being thrown to first base from the area of the plate (roughly from behind the runner), and none of the three major baseball codes directly state that. Except where noted, the material applies equally to NFHS, NCAA and pro rules.

When the lane applies, the batter-runner is required to run the last half of the distance from home to first base within the three foot lane. If the runner does not do so, there is no penalty unless, in the umpireís judgment, he interferes with the fielder taking the throw at first base. Another misconception is the batter-runner is always out if he interferes with the throw itself. As weíll see, that isnít necessarily the case.

The lines are part of the lane, so stepping on the line is not a violation. Also, one foot in or on the line and the other foot in the air is permitted. The batter-runner must take two consecutive steps totally outside the lane to violate the rule. If interference is called, the ball is immediately dead and the batter-runner is out; any other runners return to the base occupied at the time of the pitch (NFHS 8-4-1g, NCAA 7-11p, OBR 5.09a11).

The throw does not have to strike the batter-runner for interference to be called but lacking such contact makes for a very contentious call. If the runner interferes with, obstructs, impedes, hinders or confuses the defensive player who is taking the throw at first base, it is interference.

The throw was more from roughly between the area of the mound and third base line than the plate, so rule doesn't apply.

19. Thank you

That rule seems to be horseshit in practice. Are they supposed to have eyes on the backs of their heads? Am I missing something?

Grey, that is a helpful resource, and Iím still aggravated with the call. Gotta watch news now, decide what my schedule can possibly be tomorrow, as I finish this last beer, and sigh, just wish there hadnít been the interruption. Oh well, to the best team that has the pale-jowled umps behind them? Ha. Huh. Ha.

21. Interesting, thanks for this.

Seems like they were wrong... but at least the Nats won so it didnít mean the game.

Two scrappy, smart teams. To the finish, hopefully to the one bringing it home. Go Stros!

May the best team win, unimpeded by the umpires.
