So now a team has won the pennant without winning its division.

I think it calls into question the implementation of 'wildcard'.

1. The best team over the whole season isn't necessarily the best team in October. n/t

8. Then why not start the season in September and play about 30 games for the season?

But you are correct in your assertion.

4. 16 wild card teams have won the Series. Yankees and Red Sox were the reason for this

AL

NL

When this was started I read several articles about how this was really just to keep the Boston and Yankees fans around for the postseason

6. It validates the wildcard process

If a wildcard team can dominate a division winner it strongly proves the fairness and need for the wildcard process.

9. Your thought is the same as mine.

I don't see how a team that was a wild card winning it's league championship invalidates the wild card process, when I read that I had to do a breathalyzer on myself, and I don't even drink alcohol or anything close to it.
