1. I thought you meant Dwight Clark at first

It’s funny that they call this “the catch,” because the throw was maybe even better. The Polo Grounds was absolutely cavernous, about 500 feet to deep center field, where the catch was made. Runners were on first and second, and after the play, they were at first and third. Neither runner would score.

Legend has it that Don Liddle, who only pitched to Wertz, sat down at the bench and said, “Well, I got my man.”

3. Huey Lewis immortalized "The Catch" on his album, 'Sports'

Check the out the TV. Huey Lewis and Dwight Clark were genuine friends.

I’m an A’s fan, and I still get angry at the mention of Kirk Gibson’s name. Some things still sting a little, no matter how long ago it happened.
