Is it me?? as I'm not crazy about the ambushing of Pro Football Hall Of Fame Winners.

first Bill Cower and now Jimmy Johnson........donít like how they did it, and I know that this is not the most important topic in sports.

4. Sorry, the gentleman from the football Hall of Fame just appears out of nowhere

to tell some, in this case two former NFL coaches they they have been selected to be in the Hall of Fame this year. Theyíll be introduced into the hall next August at the Hall of Fame game. I just donít like the way they handle it. Both coaches cry and it just makes me uncomfortable. Itís a huge honor for them, and I understand their reaction......just donít care for the attack type mode.

2. I legit thought Mr Johnson might be having a heart attack

when they told him. He turned red and seemed unable to breathe....and then Bradshaw had to be Bradshaw to get people looking at him.

5. I thought that too

Did not care for the live TV surprise myself. The Hall of Fame guy is a really big man.

6. I liked Jimmy's in particular -- he was genuinely shocked

whereas Cowher was pleasantly surprised. And I think it was because when it did happen to Cowher, Jimmy probably figured "Well, maybe next year," and had absolutely no reason to think that lightning would strike twice!

7. I didn't mind it.

First, they were coaches and both TV announcers now. It's not like they went to some random home of some retired NFL player.
Second, I was never a Jimmy Johnson fan (my hatred of the Cowboys dates back to my early years as a Vikings fan from the early 70sóyes, my wife has pointed out that I should probably let go of that; no, that isn't going to happen. But, that moment made him more human and I like him more. And Aikman from their shots to him.

But, yeah, I get why people might not. And, as I alluded to, I hope it doesn't become a trend for those that aren't currently TV personalities.

Oh, and I also like Bradshaw a little more (yeah, I still hate the Steelers from the 70s but not as much as the Cowboys). He seemed so genuinely happy for Johnson. As did the other people there.

8. Ambush carries such a heavily negative connotation.

They were surprised with good news. A little risky to do live, but I understand it was a one time (okay, two time) thing for the 100th year celebration. It would have been better if they had done it during Steelers/Cowboys telecasts where more of their fans would be likely to be watching.

9. With You, But For A Different Reason

Usually when finalists know it is THE day, they gather with family, friends, and confidants. Then, if they get the call, everyone shares the moment. And if the call doesn't come, the support system is right there to dilute the bitter.
The approach you're talking about takes away the ability to share that moment with their besties!

11. Late Add

Anybody hear about what happened to Drew Pearson?

He had the gathering i mentioned, but never go the call. He was already All-Decade team, and didn't get in the Hall on the special induction.

He was crushed. Guy was the best receiver on a team that won 2 Super Bowls and was ignored.
