Now we need to see where Bryce Harper lands, and when.
Machado, a four-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove Award winner at third base, made $16 million between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles last season.
The deal with the Padres includes an opt-out after the fifth season, sources told Passan.
The 26-year-old slugger posted a career-high .905 OPS in 2018, finishing the season with a .297/.367/.538 slash line, 37 home runs, 107 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. In 66 regular-season games with the Dodgers, Machado hit .273 with 13 homers and 42 RBIs.

(17,255 posts)the Padres have a strong farm system and some quality prospects. Perhaps Manny is willing to sacrifice a few seasons while they mature and develop. Or maybe he's just taking the biggest possible payday...

(31,133 posts)$300 million ... pig money, a new precedent.
Hope it bites them both -- Machado and the Padres -- in the ass.
One good thing out of this: Machado will have to pay California income tax.

(64,867 posts)Not the 30M per year, but that they went for the 10 years.
He's still only in his mid-20s but to bet he will be this valuable for 10 years seems iffy in the era of analytics.
