Chan dazzles for fifth Canadian crown

World champion Patrick Chan won a fifth consecutive Canadian figure skating national title on Sunday, breaking the 300-point barrier with a total score of 302.14 points.

The 21-year-old from Toronto's total for his combined short and long programmes exceeded the world record of 280.98 he set at the 2011 world championships in Moscow. However, it won't be called a world record since it came in a domestic competition.

Japan's Daisuke Takahashi had held the previous best mark of 264.41 for three years.

Chan received 200.81 points for a free skate that included two quadruple jumps.

Kevin Reynolds was a distant second with 239.44 points
