(34,105 posts)just YAY 2 weeks in front of the TV.
Gotta get up early and head out as soon as it is light to get my chores done before too much gets going. Was sad to see that Ferrer was out.
GO FED!

(56,177 posts)I guess here was a astory on CNN about Djoker denying the cheating allegations...that he gets coaching from the stands during matches, which is illegal...Becker was notorious for this, so you never know!
MuseRider
(34,105 posts)something go across the bottom of the screen about cheating. Did not know about that. Sad.

(29,647 posts)all fans of the Australian players start yelling in unison, and it's annoying. I know it's Hewitt's last Wimbledon.

(38,506 posts)The obligatory:

(56,177 posts)Wimbldeon, but they also note that the Scots are the worst tennis players in the world...ironic because it was finally a Scotsman who became the first British man to win Wimbldeon in about 80 years, not an Englishman.
T_i_B
(14,737 posts)Scottish football is a joke and the Scotland rugby team are regular wooden spoon contenders. You know things are dire with Scottish sport when they get so excited about curling!

(56,177 posts)I liked him...Murray, the Limey Bastard as I call him, is a nasty man and a whiner.
T_i_B
(14,737 posts)...so having a grumpy git who wins is a refreshing change for us. British tennis players at Wimbledon used to be a long running bad joke.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Wonder what she's up to? Also, Tim definitely could have won had a few things broke his way...can't think of anyone else in the last 40 years or so (British) who was evena possibility.

(14,176 posts)I've seen her on Eurosport and....I can't remember which network, but she was doing the commentary somewhere when Serena had one of her tete a tetes with umpires at the US Open.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Geez, I can remember when she won Wimbledon...it was a huge deal over there. Was not a good match, though, but her and Betty Stove played very nervously.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Roger won!
Sadly, so did Rafroid.
No real drama so far.

(77,073 posts)..... reminds me of when I went in 2000, and waited 6 hours in an eternal line to get in to watch about 2 hours of outer court tennis.
It was worth it though. There is something extra special about that place -- the strawberries and cream, fish and chips, intimate outer courts.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Yeah, I know, no one else was there...could just walk out onto center court, though, which was interesting...wonder if they still let tourists do that now.

(56,177 posts)Simona Halep lost...geesh...she was supposed to be the next big thing.

(29,647 posts)There are lots of Americans playing and ESPN only covers them when there's like a match point in the match or just gives them lip service by the talking heads if they lose. WHY NOT COVER ALL THEIR MATCHES, or at least a few games or a set?? Makes me so mad that I have to watch ALL the matches of the top players and hardly any of the Americans. Or is it just me??
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Didn't think ti would happen this early, but I still didn't think Rafroid would get far...he won't be at #10 for long now.
T_i_B
(14,737 posts)Just went for it. Lots of volleys and drop shots.
Wonderful stuff, and I say that as an admirer of Nadals tennis.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)I think Rafroid was up a break early, so when I saw Dustin won the first set, I was suprised...I am very happy about this.
T_i_B
(14,737 posts)Mind you, with Nadal as the heavy favourite the pressure was off for him so he could afford to take risks and to enjoy himself.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)on one of the ESPN channels...one game, though, ace, ace, ace....

(29,647 posts)he'd come back with more power, and really looked really stupid when Dustin plopped the ball over the net. I loved it. Love the variety in his shots, not just raw power.
It was a great match to watch. I like Dustin Brown. Was unaware of him but you know I don't follow like most of you. I look forward to seeing more of him.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)But he's my new hero!!!!
MuseRider
(34,105 posts)Nadal looked confused at times and others just damned frustrated. I guess I don't know how else he could have felt to be taken down in the 3rd round by a qualifier and one who was just all over the damned place (very well all over the place). I hate to revel in it, oh wait, I guess I really don't. I have never seen Rafa as a positive for the sport except for those who watch because of him.
bigwillq
(72,790 posts)Poor Rafa.
I think he's done.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Roger had a bad 2013 and came back, but Rafroid's 2014 was pretty bad, also, so that's 2 years now...people forget that 2014 wasn't good because he won the French, but that was it.
tishaLA
(14,176 posts)it's kind of sad to see a great champion, even one I don't like, in obvious decline. But with Rafa, you knew his career would be shorter than someone like Roger and that injuries were bound to take a toll on him
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)He's done...I will say this, it's clear he's not enjoying himself out there, win or lose, he needs to take some time off and decide if he really wants to continue.

(68,868 posts)He wasn't particularly competitive against Djokovic.
And, now this bed crapping.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Nick beat Milos...I saw the second set at the gym...very high-level tennis...David Goffin won easily...he might get farther than people think. Sam Stosur was destroyed by Coco Vandeweghe...I think Sam's career is over...

it's a good match

(7,429 posts)Serena lost that set at least 3 times before she won it!!
Venus/Serena on Monday is gonna be a great match!
muriel_volestrangler
(101,306 posts)To break Serena's serve at 4-4 in the final set - with a love game? And she played so well - choice of shots, not just luck. Serena was a good winner, though - applauding good points by Watson.

(29,647 posts)Heather is going to be a good player, I just am glad not today.
On the men's side Roger made it through against a big-serving Aussie.
On to week 2!!!!!
And for Americans - how 'bout that Madison Keys?
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Roger lost concentration for a while, otherwise an easy win. Unfortunately Petra lost...that side of the draw is now wide open. Also unfortunately, Isner lost...but I hope he tired Cilic out enough so he's no longer a factor
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)Serena beat Venus...not a shocker. Saw a little of the first set at the gym...some really good tennis at times, and some really clumsy tennis at others...someone down the line may be able to exploit Serena's lapses.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)I want him to win or at least tire out the Limey bastard!
Caroline goes down in flames again...never got past the 4th round at Wimbledon I believe.
