When there's stuff to do on weekends I set the DVR and record the game, picking it up about 30-40 minutes later. Zip right past the commericals and promos. If I catch up to real time I pause to do something else. It's pretty amazing how productive you can be. Even with "guys standing around" and replay you can get through a game in about 90 minutes.

After watching both games live on Saturday I especially had no patience left for more commericals with Peyton Manning (humming the Nationwide jingle yet), Rob Lowe, monster trucks, or burgers from McPuke.

Got through the Golden Globes with Mrs Auggie the same way.

8.3% ... that's far less than I would have guessed.

Because this is obvious bullshit.

Games are scheduled for 3 1/2 hours-210 minutes. Take 8% of that and it comes in right around 17 minutes.

Have you ever watched a game and not been shown 43 minutes of what happened on the field?

And the real thing is you don't need to bullshit people-all you have to tell them is that 150 minutes will be commercials and fillers. Even the math is easy: 2/7 content and 5/7 commercials and filler.

They are allowed, what, 30 seconds to snap the ball?

A plan is made in the huddle then the team lines up. Meanwhile the defense reads the offensive set and makes any needed adjustments. The quarterback then scans the offensive set and either begins his snap count or audibles to a different set. This is the thinking part of the game and the play clock is part of the battle-in fact commentators often discuss a quarterbacks "clock management". If you fail to perceive this as part of the game you miss one of the most interesting parts...

is always moving and we could watch midfielders kick it back and forth for 20 minutes, maybe people would like it more.
