2. I think poetry is for poets. And, it's not dead and doesn't need to be saved by commercialism.

But that's just my opinion.

I've never published a poem or wanted to make money off of it.

I suppose some people would want to make money.

3. Anyone who believes they can "make money" writing poems . . .

. . . might want to learn how to write Greeting Card verse. That's about the only way to "make" it.


I've had enough poems accepted by little literary magazines (some of them paying magazines) to know it's too easy to be published if you know what you're doing. Though I love reading poetry and have an extensive poetry library---accumulated over more than 60 years---and although I've written poems that were published, I'd never say that "Poetry is for poets" because I don't consider myself to be one.

4. Agreed. I would'nt call me a poet either.

I think this poetry section is so dead is because it's so hard to find.

Too bad it's not under Arts & Humanities.

I only found my way back because of my posts tab.

6. I've been here a decade

and just found it today. Of course, it is only recently that I decided to start reading poetry.
