Looking for suggestions for a minority voices literature class.

I am teaching a new class next year. First time it is being offered in the school. It will focus on literature that comes from minority voices in the US. This would be both cultural/ethnic and "situational" (if you have a better word for that, I'm looking for something better). What I mean by "situational" is LGBTQ, poverty, autism, mental health, incarceration, etc. I have some things in mind, but looking for things I probably missed. Hit me up with some titles. This would be for high school juniors and is decidedly NOT an honors class.

1. My son read a book for a college class he enjoyed that would fit this category

I will ask him the title when he gets home from work, if you donít mind checking back here later.

3. How It Feels To Float by Helena Fox

I haven't read this book yet, but recently read a very favorable review of it in the YA section of the May edition of Book Page. I have put it on my list of books to read.

The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls is a memoir that addresses both poverty and mental illness.

Best of luck with this class.
