NK Jemisin's Powerful Hugo Award Acceptance speech

For those who don't know, Jemisin became the first African-American to win sci-fi's biggest honor, the Hugo Award for Best Novel, in 2016, for her novel The Fifth Season. Since then she has won every year for subsequent books in the series, and last Sunday she became the first person ever to win best novel for every book in a trilogy. Her acceptance speech was amazing (as was her cape).

1. Triple Crown

Three Hugos in a row - all for the same series. Wow. I have not read her (have not kept up with modern SF), but I will definitely check out her work now.

I note she was born in Iowa City. We are proud to claim her even if she did not grow up here.

3. I was about to storm into the thread

Hollering about Octavia Butler winning 3 Hugos in the 80s

Until I double checked and saw that her awards were for Novellas and a Short story, not Novels.

I'll have to read NK Jemisin's series - like exboyfil, I haven't kept up with the genre

But everyone should revisit Octavia Butler's work - She was my hero

5. She had such a voice

The ideas and concepts were great too, don't get me wrong, but the word craft was so good in her books.
