I went on a hike this morning in the Pleasanton hills........

After I completed my hike I went to work, I had on sweat pants and a sweat shirt with a hoodie, I parked my car when I did a white woman walking her dog stared at me and ran. She took a second glance and ran faster.

"I yelled I do not want your ugly ass. "

I am tired of being thought of as a criminal. I've never broken the law or even gotten as much as a speeding or parking ticket.

because she needed to hear from him that she wasn't the center of his universe, as she's most likely been brainwashed to believe. It ain't all about her.

If her dog didn't get upset--when dogs can intuit way better than humans--when what's her problem?

I get sick of this attitude that when we as AA's have been affronted with ignorance and stupidity, we're supposed to keep our mouths shut and accept our lot in life. NO. Those days are over. You want to act ignorant, you're going to hear something about it. There are no such thing as "your betters" in this country and that especially applies to white people thinking they're owed some sort of deference when they are clearly in the wrong.

If she's that goddamned scared to walk her dog on the street, she needs to keep her ugly ass at home.

I don't blame the poster for the comment. It was surely earned and might make him feel better. But, it surely won't help change things with that woman.

BUt, you argued the comment would somehow "help" by teaching the woman a lesson. I strongly believe it will simply reinforce her ugly stereotypes. That doesn't mean the comment wasn't deserved and the OP wasn't justified in saying it. But, it surely isn't going to "help"...

But at the same time

I know it pisses you off. It pisses all of us off. You are probably a much better, smarter, nicer human being than that woman will ever be. I know that doesn't help much though. And it's funny that you probably wouldn't have even noticed her at all if she hadn't acted like that.

I've never broken the law or even gotten as much as a speeding or parking ticket.

Me either. Well, I've gotten speeding tickets. And some parking ones too. Which is one of the reasons the potheads in GD just make me shake my head. They act like their right to smoke pot is the biggest thing in the world. Suddenly the "drug war" means so much to them because it affects their ability to be 67 years old and smoke a joint every damn day.

The main ones that couldn't give the first damn about the plight of black people suddenly become our biggest champions when they notice the discrepancies in sentencing re: the drug war. Fugg all of the other discrepancies in housing, employment, even other prison sentences ie murder, rape, burglary etc. Oh no, it's "Eric Holder's assault on weed" that's the BIGGEST FUCKING ISSUE. EVER!11one! Damn it must be nice to have their problems.

I have no problem finding weed, but fair and affordable housing is hard to find. I've been pulled over 3 times in a month for wearing a hoodie. I have to work harder and be better than everyone at work just to make less than everybody else. I don't think they really care about us. They never will unless it affects them too. I wish being able to smoke a blunt was a problem on my radar. People smoke crack in my alley in the open and turn tricks behind the dumpster. Thats my problem. We need fair affordable housing more than we need legal weed.

convinced that Holder's crackdown on weed is the BIGGEST ISSUE EVER!!! are so transparent they are beyond pitiful.

When they get half as worked up about the discrepancies in prison sentencing for rape and murder, housing issues that you mentioned, jobs etc. as they do about the "horibble, HORRIBLE!" discrepancies in prison sentencing JUST pertaining to weed, then I'll believe that those crocodile tears they cry mean a damn thing.

Moments like these....

Hmm... Let's not get too uppity.

I bet it felt wonderfully. But, we can't walk around like that, dear sir.

What if the next time I got on an elevator, and someone clutched their purse, I said..."Honey, I couldn't possibly do anything with the change you've collected. Here's a dollar? In fact, I'll give you a dollar every time I see you, and when you finally have enough to be worthy of the time out of my schedule that it would take to mug you...I'll give you a call. But, next time, you need to find someone else to play Driving Ms. Daisy with you. This game gets old.

------------
Yes...it would feel good in the moment...but

Then again, skip it. I need to go find an elevator.

After hearing all these stories about non-Blacks randomly ducking Black men on the streets, I feel so lucky that I have never had anything like that happen to me yet (or at least I haven't really noticed). I have no idea what it is going to take to get rid of the mindset that so many people have about all of us being thugs and swindlers. All of these people who go on shows such as Jerry Springer and Bill Cunningham and act a fool definitely don't help matters, though.

was with an american white woman. i was walking down the street, enjoying the feeling of being human when i brushed by a white american woman (obvious because of her tacky polyester clothes and cheap vinyl handbag). i accidentally brushed her as i walked by her, and she pulled away and clutched her tacky white vinyl purse when she saw me...black, female, and far more stylish than her ragged ass. as IF i would be caught dead with a tacky, white leather-like purse i didn't let that ugly ass american ruin my day though, but it does get tiring. good on you for telling that idiot the truth.

no matter what their ethnicity.

I jog every morning before work at a local school track. There is generally just one other person at the track. It is a guy who alternates between calisthenics and jogging. We ignore each other. Recently, another guy has started jogging the track. Every time he runs by me, he smiles. He makes the hair on my neck stand up. When I arrive in the morning, the first person I look for is the guy doing calisthenics. I figure that the new guy would not attack me with another guy around. Guess the race of the men.

I don't have the luxury of just running around the track and doing calisthenics without watching my back. So, perhaps it had nothing to do with your race, but rather your gender and the history of violence against women in our society.

To black women? Are you a black woman? How have you handled it when it's happened to you?
