The internet wants Bernie Sanders to know he isn't black

Black Twitter was calling Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders “black” on Sunday, and it’s not because of his civil rights pedigree. Well, not exactly.

To some politically minded Twitter users, the Bernie Sanders who spoke at Saturday’s Netroots Nation conference in Phoenix did not look like the civil rights rabble rouser that he has claimed to be. When protesters began chanting “say her name,” a reference to black women who have died in police custody, Sanders simply talked over the protesters. When asked to speak about recent events such as the death of Sandra Bland, a young black woman who died in a Texas jail after a traffic stop, he shifted the topic to the economy.

The next morning, Roderick Morrow, a host of the Black Guy Who Tips podcast, started a wildly funny hashtag called #BernieSoBlack.

After watching video of the conference, Morrow says, he wrote a few tweets expressing disappointment with Bernie Sanders. Soon, he was getting angry tweets from white Sanders supporters (whom he jokingly calls “Standers” – a play on Sanders’ name and “Stan,” a term for a maniacal fan).

It was almost like they were scolding me, saying that Bernie Sanders is blacker than me. So, I just took that to the extreme, and made a joke.”

But a lot of people, especially black people, feel that some of his supporters are being dismissive of any critique. Some of his fans that just don't want to hear it.”

"BLM is dead to me" from a Sanders supporter. No joke.

I don't know what's worse. The fact that this person is MAD AS HELL that people actually demanded their candidate for president address their issues or the fact that they think that minorities in this country actually need them in any way shape or form.

Minorities have more clout than these white "left" libertarians ever will. They've spent the last x number of weeks trying to browbeat support for their candidate with their MLK bullshit and the "he marched in Selma!!1" but now, it's apparent that these folks have officially lost their minds.

It almost feels like they think it's a threat. They never gave a fuck in the first place if that's how it is. The level of anger and bitterness towards black folks is palpable in here. Horrifying. The need OUR votes. WE vote in records numbers and decide elections.

I have gotten no few than a hundred lectures on civil rights lately from white folks that have never see a right that the don't have. It's mistifying how stupid they think black people- we need them to tell us whats best for us and to lecture us if we don't agree. No more.

Hillary is already OWNING minority support (along with everything else) but after watching black people pwn Sanders, she will make good and damn sure that doesn't happen to her. She will take that lesson along with the other things she learned when she got spanked in 2008.

This same person was in FULL BLOWN crisis mode yesterday trying to spin this really disastrous outcome for Bernie as a "positive." I thought that only the Sanders supporters on DU were out of touch, tone deaf, obnoxious, bewilderingly clueless on race issues, and more than a tad too sensitive.

Thanks to this OP, I now know that these seem to be almost an innate qualities of Sanders supporters throughout the Internet. And that they seem to make a habit of chasing black people around who have less than glowing things to say about their candidate and with the same brain breakingly moronic arguments ie "but he marched with MLK!!!!!11one"

So, this is probably one of the few instances in the entire history of this web site that DUers are actually in the mainstream on something!! That's fucking AMAZING and definitely warrants recognition. Congrats!

What I see when I see coverage of Bernie's speeches, and it has bothered me and I havent said anything about it, is a sea of white and usually older.

Now, what we can agree on, I assume, is no matter who the Dem candidate is, they are vastly superior in every way to any con.

And yet I get the impression from many Bernie supporters that if he isnt on the ballot in November, they aint at the polls.

That would be terrible and it would reinforce the opinion we are having about them.
