Related: About this forumFamily Research Council guard shot by gunman in D.C.
An armed intruder, spouting opposition to social conservatism, walked into the Washington headquarters of the Family Research Council on Wednesday and shot a security guard before the wounded guard and others wrestled him to the floor and subdued him until police arrived, authorities said.
They identified the suspect as Floyd Lee Corkins II, 28, of Herndon, who has a masters degree from George Mason Universitys College of Education and Human Development. Corkins was in FBI custody Wednesday night; authorities had not filed charges against him.
The guard, identified by the Family Research Council as Leo Johnson, was shot in the arm before or during the incident in the lobby, D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said. She credited Johnson with preventing a tragedy by stopping the man, who was carrying a 9mm handgun, from reaching the upstairs offices in the groups six-story building at Eighth and G streets NW.

The Family Research Council, a conservative lobbying group, deals in issues of faith, family and freedom, its Web site says. The organization opposes abortion and euthanasia, among other practices, and says it considers homosexuality to be a sin.
Gary Bauer, a former president of the Family Research Council and now head of American Values, cited a disturbing level of intolerance and hate aimed at those who share traditional values.

Hmm... not very bright. Why bring a pistol when a bomb would be more conducive to taking out the entire upper-echelon of the Christo-Fascist HQ?

Seriously though, these sorts of amateur terrorist stunts do the anti-fundamentalist movement no good.
The last thing we need is to be making martyrs out of these wing-nuts. They already have a huge enough "persecution complex" as it is.
Let's stick with the ballot box while it's still a option and keep kicking their butts in the courts.

(91,586 posts)1. i make no excuses for that asshole, but i fucking hate the wingnuts always playing victim
when the don't give a shit when their own right wing fanatics do something and have done these things and killed a bunch of people. now they are complaining this isn't getting as much attention as the Sikh Temple Shooting or Arizona or some others.
maybe because we got lucky nobody died here.
Gary Bauer sees himself as a bigger victim than the people who were actually killed at the temple or places.

Where's the outrage this time? It's all about a grand conspiracy.
