Quinn Speaks Out For Gun Control

Unlike President Obama, Gov. Pat Quinn is speaking out in favor of gun control in the days after the movie theater massacre in Aurora, Colorado. Quinn, it should be noted, campaigned on the issue in 2010, when he had the support of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Quinn’s opponent, Bill Brady, took a strongly pro-gun stance, promising to sign a conceal carry bill if he was elected.

Here’s what Quinn had to say to reporters about John Larimer, the Navy sailor from Illinois who was killed in the massacre

"I think it’s important for everyone in America to take a step back and pray for the victims as well as those who are trying to recover, their families. The Larimer family did not know for many hours on Friday whether their son was dead or alive, and it was a very traumatic time for our family, a special family from our state of Illinois. I think it’s important we do what the president did yesterday: go to Colorado and console those who are grief-stricken."

Here’s Quinn advocating an assault weapons ban in Illinois:

" With respect to laws, I’m for a ban on assault weapons in our state. I campaigned on that in 2010. I also feel that these high-capacity ammunition magazines need to be regulated and prohibited. I think it’s important that our state show the way. There’s bills that have been introduced on that subject of assault weapons and these ammunition magazines, and I think we have to renew our efforts there."

I’m opposed to the conceal carry proposal. The idea of allowing people to carry loaded weapons that are hidden, on their person, and be able to go in public places, whether it’s a movie theater, a grocery store, a shopping center or a sports stadium, I just don’t think that’s a good way to prevent violence.

Like the extant gun laws in Illinois are "a good way to prevent violence"? That's rich. Tell you what, Pat- Have your personal security ditch any hidden weapons they might have, since that's "not a good way
to prevent violence". Then we'll talk....

Of course he is for draconian gun control and opposes concealed carry.

Unfortunately, it will be an uphill battle. Obviously, it doesn't work to ban something in one state and have the same thing available in surrounding states. Any sensible legislation has be done on a federal level for it to be effective.

And Illinois can't seem to get their collective thumbs out of their asses to crack down on illegal weapons buyers and sellers .

So naturally their response is to keep trying to restrict the law abiding...

Last time I checked Illinois did not have a border patrol or customs inspection. Oh, right it's against the law, so only those who are prepared to break the law will have them. Brilliant!

There's a big Cabela's in Hammond, just chock full 'o guns.

Or try one of the smaller mom and pop stores. Just walk on in, buy any gun, drive back to Chicago and show us how easy it is.

We'll look forward to hearing from you in a decade or so when they let you and Blago out of Club Fed. But you can always tell them you were "just doing research" on the subject for your next book.

Or ... did you just say things to hear yourself? So ... I'm guessing you have no examples or evidence of that actually happening, except in your fertile imagination, right?

I just love hearing from people that don't really ever buy guns about how easy it is to buy them across state lines or at a gun show.

Hell, today in the Chicago Tribune Clarence Page uses that Al Quaida videotape to "prove" that anyone can walk into a gun show and walk out with a "machine gun" no questions asked.

This is almost as funny as some gun control supporters that don't really do anything but post online to "support" gun control, then piss and moan about how powerful the NRA is.

But I'm sure that doesn't apply to you.

How do you think the guns in Chicago got there? You can't be that naive as to think criminals buy guns legally.

Show them your California ID for the 4473. Let us know how it goes. We get Canadian snowbirds (without a resident alien card) try to do the same with an Ontario DL and even their PAL. They never get the desired result.

Funny how everybody loves Quinn and Rahm when they ignore and break contracts with the state employes, firemen, cops and teachers. As long as they are anti gun.

It's nice to see so many of you are one issue voters. You'll support anyone that you think is against guns.

Hell, we've had applause here for Scott Walker for banning CCW in some state buildings and of course everyone on the gun control side loves Bloomie, in spite of his racist stop and frisk laws.

Send Quinn a check right away - he's gonna need it. He raised the state income tax 67% one year ago and is now saying it's not enough to pay for his new projects, so he's calling for another big tax hike, in a state where he's let the pension funds for state union members fall billions of $ behind. He's not long for the political world.

I hope he joins Blago in Colorado real soon.
