Man charged with pointing gun at motorist (VA)

http://blogs.fredericksburg.com/newsdesk/2012/07/05/man-charged-with-pointing-gun-at-motorist/?mobile=true

A Stafford man was arrested Wednesday in connection with an incident the previous day in which he is accused of pointing a gun at another motorist.

The incident occurred on Princess Anne Street in Fredericksburg Tuesday about 8:40 p.m., city police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said. The victim, a 55-year-old Stafford man, reported that he was driving toward the downtown area when he slowed down to comply with the speed limit.

That apparently aggravated the other motorist, who the victim said crossed the double-yellow line and angled his vehicle in a way that made it appear that he was going to ram the victim.

He then pulled up beside the victim shortly after the street became one-way and pointed a handgun at him. The victim slowed considerably at that point to let the gunman get ahead of him. Bledsoe said the suspect kept the gun pointed toward the victim until he got out of sight.

2. I suspect I know what's going on here.

Stafford is on the I-95 corridor, which is rapidly being suburbanized from Washington to Richmond. It used to be a low-traffic townlet, but now the insanity of Northern Virginia has totally engulfed it, and it probably takes twenty minutes and six traffic lights to get to one's mailbox.

Once traffic insanity hits a region, the normal rules of the road no longer apply. A signal is an invitation to be cut off. Driving the speed limit is interpreted as antagonism by other drivers. Some of them pop off, every day, or try to deal with it through very stupid means like drinking, which I did. And using a gun to threaten other drivers suddenly seems less crazy than the world outside.

That's why I can never go back.

here is one couple days ago - gunner did not like the diagnosis of his air conditioner repair person

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/07/03/florida-man-allegedly-pulls-gun-on-repairman-for-billing-him-despite-failing-to/

the scary part is that the repairman had a concealed permit . . . imagine the outcome if he was carrying as well

It seems like 9/10ths of the posts from the gun-religionists are pretty needless posts, like the one (#7) you responded to.

I'm assuming they're making these more-or-less worthless posts to increase their post numbers, so their conservative beliefs about guns can carry some "I'm not a conservative troll wasting Liberal's time, look at my post count!" heft.

the link was to an editorial or something of the like. It was a simple story and was reported accurately.

anyway - the link was easy to provide and once again shows the nuttery of some toters.

I became a much more polite driver. When I obtained my concealed weapons permit and started to carry in public I also became more polite when dealing with others that I encountered on the street or in stores. Most of the people I know who carry firearms tell me that the same thing happened to them.

If as I believe a high percentage of who start carrying firearms in their cars or on their person in public become more polite then we do indeed live in a much more polite society.

Had I been able to actually find statistical evidence to support my view, I would have presented it. However I doubt if any actual research has been conducted on this subject.

You do know who Darryl Gates is, right?

No argument from authority, rather, a solid piece of evidence. I know gun-relgionists don't know the difference, and that they've been taught to throw out various "you just made a rhetorical error!" to waste time & "run out the clock". Don't worry, I know the tactics of you gun religionists.
