We're going shooting again this weekend

It's hard to believe its been 2 years but we're going. Hubby, FIL, SIL and a few family friends. It wasn't long after I went 2 yrs ago that I proposed to my husband (Yes, I proposed. I have my feminist credentials to look-out for, after all). Lover Boy thought it would be a good anniversary commemoration. I agree.

There's hardly a better (less expensive) way to celebrate than enjoying a day at the range.

I went and enjoyed it last time but guns are still kind of intimidating and its such a technical process you might as well try and teach me high-performance engine repair (don't bother). I can barely follow some of the conversations some of you "nutters" have here.

Still, it is conjuring memories for me and I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.

Doves especially. Of course I am going to be watching them over the bead on my Rossi double hammer 20ga.

Hope to bag a limit this year.

Adapted from DKos, "Don't be a dick."

I suppose you spend all your time laying limply on gravel, breathing shallowly, so as to live up to your rules for others, amIrite?

You'd be surprised at the entries that mention "shooting nearby" even if there's a disclaimer in the description to ignore the shooting that there's a range across the road.

On another note the range is the environment to be disrupt with the sweet sound of gunfire.

my environment disturbing, last year, netted me , dove, quail, pheasant, ruffed grouse, duck, and goose. No turkey's were harmed during my disturbing, lucky bastards that they were.
I enjoyed the results of my environment disturbing last night, in the form of ruffed grouse, smoked with cherry and apple wood, with wild rice/rice pilaf, and homegrown asparagus.

Having worked on a few engines - I would say that guns are a lot simpler. If you just look at them as simple machines, you can learn to do everthing you need to do (clean, lube, adjust sights, switch grips, verify good condition).

Loading your own ammo is another level of difficulty, but it's something anyone can learn to do safely if they are willing to (absolutely) follow a few safety rules.

I am also a big birder. I'm fortunate to have a "hot spot" (Lake Merritt in oakland, CA) less than 2 blocks away from home. The winter flocks (grebes, scaups, various ducks) are gone, the swallows and other summer birds are here, as well as a lot of newly-hatched birds. I used to hunt turkey a bit, but gave it up as my birding increased.
