Group Claims Ohio Gun Laws Threaten Public Safety

COLUMBUS, Ohio --

Are statehouse republicans putting guns before the safety of our kids and communities? That is what a group of of lawmakers, ProgressOhio, the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence and law enforcement officials claim.

Dubbed Stand Their Ground on overreaching gun legislation, speaking for the group, Ohio State Rep. Ted Celeste (D) said a litany of current and pending gun-related bills under consideration in the General Assembly could put public safety and law enforcement officers in harm's way.

Gun laws already signed into legislation include House Bill 45, which allows concealed handgun license carriers to bring firearms into bars and restaurants as long as they do not consume alcohol, and House Bill 54, which allows people convicted of certain misdemeanors to apply for a concealed handgun license.

That is the law in most states. They don't seem to have problems with it, why would Ohio?
Gun laws still pending at the Statehouse include House Bill 256, which would allow citizens to carry a concealed firearm without a license,
I'll give them half point for this one. That said, it works for Vermont.
House Bill 263, which would ban private gun show sales.
Celeste reffered to HB 263 as "the gun show loophole."
Banning private sales at gun shows would be bad for public safety?
House Bill 425 is also pending, and would allow concealed handgun license holders to carry a concealed firearm in state-owned parking garages.
I don't see the big deal in this one.
House Bill 422 would remove the law requiring concealed carry license holders to immediately notify law enforcement officers after a traffic stop of their concealed firearm.
The cop probably already knows, but it is good manners to anyway for the most part. How is this bad for the children?

and common courtesy to inform a police officer you are carrying a concealed weapon. It prevents any misunderstandings.

for having a light out. I handed the trooper my DL and carry permit. He looked at both, handed them back, told me about the light and sent me on my way...
