3-D printed guns and the law

What new laws should be passed? How can they be enforced?

This week, instead of walking into a gun shop and handing over my credit card to buy firearms, bullets and grenades, I decided to try a different route: I downloaded highly detailed schematics — like blueprints for a house — of dozens of functional weapons and bullets.

...

Among the files now sitting on my laptop are parts for an M16, AR-15, AK-47 and other semiautomatic guns. There are files for handguns, including a Glock, Beretta and a .22-caliber Ruger.

...

The government is flummoxed about what to do. Last year the State Department tried to ban people from sharing files for one of these guns, called the Liberator. Yet here it is, sitting on my laptop. Along with hundreds of other 3-D files. The Department of Homeland Security anticipated this problem, sending a memo to law enforcement noting that “Limiting access may be impossible.”

Kevin De Leon.

But for these idiots, there would be nothing to fear.

I don't happen to think that there is a shadow government looking to oppress our freedomz, but I'm CERTAIN that if we don't speak out, we'll keep losing them.

I agree, there is no shadow government.

Freedom is a back and forth exercise of the people finding the best place to draw a line that separates private dealings and decisions from public regulation. The only way for that to work is to speak out.

The reporter should have commented further on thugs not acquiring these gunz as a matter of aesthetics and taste.

Effective propaganda campaigns work that way, I suppose.

But it sure seemed out of place with the other articles about footwear and makeup.

I suspect the author will be next looking to download 3D info to "print" a "shoulder thing that goes up".
