Related: About this forumNRA ammosexual likens Washington’s gun initiative to Nazi Germany
In a startling charge delivered at an anti-Initiative 594 meeting last week at Silverdale, the National Rifle Associations chief state lobbyist likened Washingtons campaign to close the gun show loophole to Nazi Germany.
The charge has evoked outrage from the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, where a gunman shot to death one employee and wounded others in a 2006 attack.
Brian Judy of the NRA took out after Seattle entrepreneur Nick Hanauer, whose family has pledged a half-million-dollars to I-594. The November ballot initiative, originally launched by Seattles faith community including the senior rabbi at Seattles Temple De Hirsch Sinai would close the gun show loophole by requiring criminal background checks for those purchasing firearms at gun shows or on line.
Hanauer wrote in a recent article, advocating a higher minimum wage, that his family were pillow makers in Germany who found refuge in America from Hitlers regime.
Now, he (Hanauer) has put half-a-million dollars toward this policy, the same policy that led his family getting run out of Germany by the Nazis, Judy told the July 23 meeting. Its like (laughter) . . . How stupid can they you know? Now, hes funding, hes put half-a-million dollars toward this policy, the same policy that led to his people getting run out of Germany by the Nazis.

Hopefully one day you will figure out that alienating potential allies, while making you feel all morally superior and tingly inside, does not get you any closer to what you want.

(1,089 posts)They've done a bang-up job convincing me that I'm not welcome in this fight, so I quit. Apparently you're not allowed to like guns unless you're a straight white Christian Republican man over 40 who finds sexual harassment and racial bigotry hilarious.

(1,401 posts)The first steps towards oppression are to dehumanize "the other". See "ammosexual" in lieu of "gun owning citizen" for reference.

(19,497 posts)You know how the pro-controllers are constantly reminding us that "No one is going to take away your precious"? He conveniently popped-up as the bald-faced antithesis of those assurances at a time when the denials of gun-grabbing were at their height.
I question the timing.

Trying to get a cheap laugh amongst your own, eh? pretty sexist remark imo.
And your progun side complains of 'pecker references' regarding guns being unfair? should you apologize or just show remorse over your blatantly tacky post?
(pink pistols are a homosexual gun group, considered somewhat rightwing, not a large membership ~ a few thousand unless it's changed. Similar to log cabin republicans)

(19,497 posts)Yes, the "ammosexual," "gun-humper" and penis references are sexist. You should inform your compatriots to stop making them. If they don't make such comments then there will be no such comments to forward.
Yes, I know. That's what makes "ammosexual" a derogatory slur. Ammosexual is obviously intended to be an insinuation of sexual deviancy but does so with a term that sounds like "homosexual."
I doubt the people using the term "ammosexual" and other attending phallic references would do so to the faces of the homosexual community that chooses to exercise its right to self-defense as well as enjoy shooting sports among like-minded friends.
The intent of my post is obvious, that you cannot or will not see that simple fact says more about you than me.

The intent of your post is not 'obvious' by any stretch; as written it is sexist & would likely be interpreted as an insult to gay community.
I retract nothing, your post is sexist & an insult to others. If you meant otherwise you need to clarify it using the 'edit' feature in your post above, not after the fact retrofitting.

You're full of malarkey and your claim of retrofitting is merely projection by evidence of the fact you aren't calling out the poster who uses the term ammosexual as a slur against gun owners. I called him on it, you didn't. Spare us your fake indignation.

(10,136 posts)Fortunately, WA state does not take a lot of direction from the NRA. We locals are pretty good at weeding out the anti-gun nonsense on our own, and the NRA actively defers to us most of the time.
Unfortunately for I-594, it is a bad implementation of a good idea. Until we get a better implementation of universal background checks, we are better off without I-594.

(86 posts)Look the Gun Control Act of 1968 was helped by Senator Thomas Dodd, and his use of the Nazi Weapon Laws of 1938. Most of the laws we have now in states like New York, Colorado, California, Massachusetts, Illinois for example are far more egregious than the Nazi Weapon laws of 1938. What has happened in those states when it comes to guns would please Hitler greatly, in my opinion.
So these folks need to stop comparing anti-gun folks to Nazis, that's not fair or accurate. These people call for far more control over guns than Nazis ever did. http://jpfo.org/common-sense/cs34.htm
These comparisons to Nazis need to stop. They're not accurate.
