Man accused of brandishing handgun in Pocatello bar

POCATELLO — A local man is facing a felony charge of aggravated assault after he allegedly brandished and pointed a handgun at customers and employees of the Chalk Horse in Pocatello.

Lt. Paul Manning, of the Pocatello Police Department, said the incident occurred during the early morning hours of June 22 when Omar E. Mahmoud and another person reportedly got into a verbal altercation. Both were asked to leave the establishment.

Manning says witness accounts in police reports suggest that Mahmoud got in his car and drove down the alley behind the Chalk Horse, employees believing he had left. But he came back to the establishment, entering from that alley area at around 2:30 a.m.

“A few minutes later he came walking back from the alley holding a gun in his hand,” Manning said, reading from the report. “He allegedly pointed the gun toward patrons in the parking lot.”

1. OMG WTF CALL CONGRESS RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!!!

Sifting through the news, I see, for anything to post having anything to do with a scary gun.

I understand the strategy, post enough stories and more people will get the impression that shootings are on the rise.

Except that they're not. They aren't rising and people aren't going to buy it.

Only a few will, I read a reply yesterday in which the member wrote about "rising gun violence" or some such.

It doesn't exist, it isn't out there. We're safer now than in years past.

2. When the bullet enters your brain, you don't really stop to consider

if gun crime is on the rise or not. When an asshole waves his gun like his dick, you do NOT comfort yourself with the knowledge that most likely you will not die.

3. So brandishing is now okay?

Consealed carry class teaches that? Open carry isn't enough? We need to wave it around in a threat display? I'm no gun wizard but if you upholster your weapon you are implying an intent to shoot.

4. First, I never said it was OK. Second, this is an unproved accusation.

Someone claims that happened.

It probably did but hell, this is a huge country, and this was in Idaho, and it just doesn't deserve a DU thread IMO.

It might make for interesting discussion, but the poster never discusses.

Not sure what their point is in posting it...

5. "Upholster" your weapon?

Would that be leather or vinyl?

7. Drunk blow hole faces felony. O-o-okay, and your point?

Since little constructive or creative has come from this OP, I'll add an historical point. An old custom in the South often resulted in a would-be shooter, who was disarmed, being pistol-whipped with his own gun.
