Why police recover more guns in Chicago than any other city

It’s not news that Chicago has a gun problem. But that doesn’t make it any more palatable for Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, a firm believer in systems management and improved gun laws as he works to reduce crime in the city.

“We recover more guns than any city in the country every single year,” McCarthy said.

McCarthy, who took over as head of the Chicago Police Department in 2011, by way of the New York and Newark, N.J., Police Departments, is confident that state laws and enforcement efforts directly correlated to lowered crime in those cities.

Specifically New York, he says, has five laws, which Illinois doesn’t, that reduced gun seizures, gun arrests, murders and incarceration.

But ... that was before the May issue of Chicago magazine exposed the cooked numbers he and Rahm were using, to make it look like the crime rate was falling. When they were actually running over 1100 street cops short of what was called for by the union contract. But Rahm is a big "Fuck Unions" kind of guy.

http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/May-2014/Chicago-crime-rates/ Very interesting (and gross) reading on what counts as a murder in Chicago.

So this month, after the fraud was exposed, he blames lax gun laws for the rise in murders that he said didn't exist last month.

Maybe next month he'll blame evil fairies (or the Sinaloa Cartel that uses Chicago as a major distribution point, but that couldn't have anything to do with gun violence, right?

But if I was in McCarthy's shoes I wouldn't even buy green bananas. He won't be around long enough for them to ripen, based on Rahm's penchant for dumping any subordinate that embarrasses him.

“What are the five things that New York State has that we don’t have?

It has an assault weapons ban,
How often are ARs used in crimes in Chicago? few if any. How many Olympic/ISSF target pistols (many of which are "assault weapons&quot ? Zero.
it has an extended magazine ban.
Which has what to do with it the number of available guns? How many crime guns hold less than ten rounds?
It has a requirement for universal background checks for gun sales.
Not true
It has a requirement to report the loss, theft or transfer of a firearm,
handguns maybe, but not long guns.
and it has a mandatory minimum of three years in jail for illegal gun possession,”
They don't turn the current ones to the feds, so what is he whining about?
