Thanks to all, from both sides, who participated in my GD thread. http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=4415244
Though locked by the hosts, I do not disagree with their explanation and reasoning. The input I received will help me get a good start on my project for the school.

(7,720 posts)Did you contact the Minnesota DNR? their gun safety program is designed for 11 and 12 year olds and up.
My brother has taught a MNDNR gun safety program for about 28 years, but he is not in tbe Twin Cities.
By the way, I grew up in a house with many long guns and one handgun. My brothers and I were taught never to touch them. We had to keep our friends from touching them.

(18,318 posts)It is unfortunate your GD post was censored in the new Guns Dept. No surprise, there.
Do you plan on using "dummy" guns at all? I used a Model 870, which 53 years later than my experience might cause a stir.

(7,720 posts)I did the same thing using an Ithaca Model 37.

I would like to use dummies but that is up to the board to vote and ultimately the principal who has final say under MN law. If the teaching is done by the staff (likely) then using dummies would be logistically difficult but still doable.

(7,720 posts)I am quite sure it will be an indictment on guns in the home.
I know that in my case we had guns in our home. We were curious. My father showed us his guns. We were told not to touch them when he was not with us. We did not touch them until we were much older.

No matter, I am willing to listen to different opinions. Sometimes a nugget of wisdom can be found.
The broadcast is what caused the school to consider talking to the kids about guns.
