(1,297 posts)Do I detect a bit of Aussie Heeler in the mix?
George McGovern
(5,420 posts)You are a good detector she is mostly Border Collie and Blue Heeler. She likes to "herd" our horses, only not usually where we want them to go. We adopted Shadow at six weeks old. She was part of litter of ten puppies, born in a barn unattended, until the rescue folks found them.
Are you a dog person?
Duppers
(28,117 posts)She must be very intelligent!
Our very tall B.C. was a very smart gal.
George McGovern
(5,420 posts)She IS intelligent Duppers. Too smart for her own good (and ours) sometimes!
Do you have a photo of your Border Collie?
Duppers
(28,117 posts)And will post when I find a pic of her. Thank you for asking.

(1,297 posts)As are both offspring! Son's Red Heeler is getting on in age, but used to be a great hiking companion. Daughter had to replace her Blue Heeler recently.
Bouncing back from demise (old age) of our mom-and-daughter cocker spaniel duo, we adopted Louise, reportedly a dachshund/King Charles mix, mostly white with turquoise eyes.

(5,420 posts)One of the very hardest trials we muddle through is the death of a dearly beloved pet animal.
But you are bouncing back! Adoption is the best way to give new life to dogs, cats, etc. and to oneself by loving them. Dachshund/King Charles mix is intriguing - would you consider posting a photo or two of Louise?
Thank You!

(1,297 posts)I don't lack for pics, but have never posted a picture here before and will have to choose a picture-hosting site I guess.
More to follow.
I meant to say "G McG."
Don't know if this will work as a quick kludge, but I'll give it a try.

(5,420 posts)I sent you a DU mail PM. To see what Louise looked like in the Pets group, I posted your first photo from the three above. I hope that was okay. Post is titled "Louise adopted by The Roux Comes First." Please tell me if that was not okay.
Thanks

It's very gratifying to read your response. It's why I take pictures to bring a little happiness, beauty into the world. Animals possess an essence that is very real and there to see and hear if only we are attentive.
Diamond_Dog
(31,914 posts)I can see you get it from your wonderful animal photo portraits.
They really do enrich our lives so much. I feel sorry for anyone incapable of loving animals.
George McGovern
(5,420 posts)Yes, because anyone who can't or just doesn't love animals is missing out on a big blessing in their lives.
If you have mentioned animals in your life here I don't remember; but, do you have a pet(s)?

(31,914 posts)This is my Sophie and this is the very first picture I ever posted on DU.
George McGovern
(5,420 posts)You chose a beautiful picture for your first ever posting. The shading on the right side of her face emphasizes the honesty in her left eye. Please, post more of her.

(31,914 posts)I am truly flattered someone as talented as yourself would pay me such a compliment!
I could post dozens more! But here are a couple of my favorites...
George McGovern
(5,420 posts)Sophie has kind eyes. As if she'll do anything you ask just to please you, knowing you'll reward her. Verbally, and likely with a treat.
I love your top picture, side portraits are real neat to look at. Appeaing. The bottom photo is really neat, I think. Sophie curled up with the black lines crossing her body, which makes her "stand out.." I can see why these are two of your favorites!
I'm glad you feel flattered, Diamond_Dog, although I don't consider myself particular talented: just that I've been taking pictures for more than thirty years and sooner or later I was bound to learn something. I am humbled when someone sees and likes one of my photos. I've been blessed with the ability to "see" a scene and what it'll likely look like as a picture in my head before clicking the shutter. I am happy to pay you compliment; I hope it reinforces your own gift for sharing Sophie with the rest of us.
Thank you, D_D - hope to see more of your dear Sophie.

(31,914 posts)You noticed the kind eyes that is the trait of a Labrador Retriever. Thank you for your encouraging comments.
No matter the source, your talent is evident in abundance with your animal portraits. I have enjoyed each and every one.
Shadows fur is so beautiful. He (or she) would be fun to do a painting of. He looks like a painting already! I love how you captured his head turned, which is much more visually interesting than looking straight on. And his intense gaze... What a shot!
Looking forward to more of your photos!
George McGovern
(5,420 posts)Shadow is in fact a "she." Thank You - she's been a major blessing her whole 3 1/2 years.
Do you take pictures with a cell phone or a camera? Please, keep it up.
Diamond_Dog
(31,914 posts)I have a Nikon camera but the IPad is easier to carry around, plus Im lazy.
George McGovern
(5,420 posts)Plus it's a heckuva lot handier than a camera! Thanks!
