This may sound crazy, but has anyone here "skyped" their dog

while they were away, and if so, how did it go?

Did he or she recognize you/ your voice?

I'm asking because I'm away from home and miss my dog.

1. My great neice loves to skype my dogs. Not sure they get much out of it.

I think they could hear you voice though. I babysit for a lot of dogs, I send the owners videos.

3. Someone please help this person

Whatthehell, I am sure your dog misses you too. I am on so many pet sites, cats actually, and I have seen people do this. As a techno-idiot I can give you a K&R though.

12. Hey KT..

Thanks for.your very sweet response, though I did, at first, think your subject line 'someone please help this person" expressed concern for my mental health. Seriously.

Judging by all the responses I've gotten, though, if I am crazy, it seems I'm not, at least, alone.

Thanks again from a fellow animal lover and "techno idiot", lol.

17. LOL!

I know I would be bonkers if I didn't have the pet sites and a kitty on my lap at all times these days!

18. Yes indeed

Do you get The Dodo?.. It's my favorite.

Besides my dog Brodie, I have 3 cats -- an 8 year old tabby named Catsby, and two senior citizens, aged 15, Bobo and Dash.

19. Love Dodo!

I am on 3 Seattle Facebook pages - Cats of Seattle, Cats of Ballard, Crafting with Cats 2015, and Instagram: Happycatclub. I also follow Walter Santi from Turkey on Youtube - his laughs while watching his cats is infectious. The hibernators in my house are Chester and Zig - both about 5 and female Bobo - about 6 or so. I would get more but they don't all get along!

11. yeeeaaah, i tried to warn him. parrots are like that.

it's a funny story.
a young lawyer who fell in love w my farm needed a place to stay. it was fortunate that i had a room, as i was about to get a barrage of bullshit from the city over my farm.
so, he rented a room from me for about 6 mos, and i had in house counsel. lol.

so, i had rescued this cranky little grey. seriously plucked former breeder, and a biter.
she and i were getting there when bryan moved in. it was love at first sight.
she quickly picked up that a knock on the door and the magic words- hey bryan- opened the golden portal to her love.
it went downhill from there, including her laying a couple of eggs for him.

needless to say, when he moved out, baby went with him.

the thing about parrots is that they are drama queens, and so is bryan. i did my best to warn him that any expletive that he deployed WOULD be imitated, and so it has come to pass.
omg, the language. she is a lot of fun at a party, and on fb, but the fellow scored a job as a senior atty, standing up an expansion in a suburban law office.
the good news is that i have a couple of legal matters on my plate now, and will have a couple more in the near future. so, i officially make him a finder at the firm.
he can blame it on me once i start writing checks.

he has actually gotten a ton of traction in his interviews for the stories about defending the chicken lady. so, it will be easy to blame me for the parrot once she gets out of the closet.

7. I used to call my sister when I was overseas and she was keeping my dog to talk to my dog...

It was "life-saving" for both of us, but the most amazing thing was that she always KNEW when I was about to call and waited by the phone. No, I didn't call on any kind of predictable schedule, being overseas and since my sister worked various shifts. And my dog was accustomed to my sister being on the phone all the time since she was quite the "talker"--never paying any mind... But no, this great dog only came into my sister's room to lie beside the telephone 10 or so minutes before I called.

That dog (yellow lab mix) and I had an incredibly intuitive relationship. She was one of a kind and I still miss her sooooo much.

15. That is amazing..

It as if she could tell time!

I had a dog who did something similar. I can't't go into details now, because it's a long story, but he also seemed able to "tell time", doing
the same thing, every day at the same time, with no prompts from humans.

Over and over, dogs seem to defy expectations, demonstrating abilities science, as yet, can't explained. .They're incredible .

Thanks for sharing your story!

8. A co-worker did something interesting recently

She recently got a new dog and put a GoPro-type of camera around its neck so she can check in on her pet all day.

Not quite the masa as Skype but there you have it.

14. That is interesting..

Did you read Mopinko's post further down the thread?

She says she has a parrot with one of those go-pro type things
...I'm not sure she's actually being serious.

16. I assumed that it works with some pets - they virtually all do it on a pretty regular basis.

Try it and see how it goes! I don't think most pets are attentive over a long period of time, but even a few minutes of connecting with them is fun.
