Rusty is over The Bridge, in the sunshine in The Meadow.
You need to be kind to yourself.
I dread these sorts of posts. I'm glad we can all be there for each other.

(32,917 posts)and rusty loves you. you gave rusty ear skritchies, belly rubs, morning outies, walks, sneaked him treats, and loved him enough to put him first. i am so sorry. i know how hard i grieved for my fur babies.

(2,124 posts)you loved your Rusty and are deeply grieving his loss. I cried my eyes out when my Sammy died in early February in my kitchen. I only regret that I wasn't with her at the exact moment of her death as I was getting ready to take her to the Emergency Vet. Please take time to grieve and be kind to yourself - you did the right thing in not prolonging his suffering.

(154,021 posts)We did that with Tuky, our beloved Cockatiel, when it was time. You need to grieve.
If you have other companions so do they.

(15,882 posts)It's the ones we have to take care of the most that seem to leave the biggest hole, especially that someone else failed. At least that has been my experience.
But it's also been my experience that time will help you manage it.
Thank you for giving Rusty the life you did, and remembering the good times you had will help. Soon those memories will crowd out today.
