Happy story from my local news I wanted to share
A family was reunited with their dog after more than a year thanks to a microchip! And such a beautiful doggie! She was found living in an abandoned house.

1. A few years ago I found a dog laying on the side of the road..
I brought him to the nearest Vet that I knew of and he and I decided we would work out the cost of the emergency surgery together (I've done this before). This poor dog looked like he never had a home. He was dirty, skinny and barely alive.
Later that day when the Vet called to say that my new buddy was doing well, he mentioned that they checked and the dog was chipped. It didn't take long to discover that he had escaped from his yard several months earlier and his family were desperately searching for him. Somehow he managed (or was taken) about 60 miles from his home. The Vet got paid, I was not out my usual several hundred $$$, Pudgie was reunited with his family and they made out a reward check to the ASPCA in my name. All my dogs are chipped and their bios and photos are on all the internet registries I could find. |

2. You are seriously a hero.
It's great that you've found a vet who will work with you to help animals in need, too. That's a great story about Pudgie! Microchipping is the way to go until our little guys learn to talk.

3. Hero
absolutely. Pudgie loves you (what a great name).
Thank you we find chips in many of the dogs that come into the shelter from the South, and most of the time the owners are unreachable because they are gone and in the rare instance we contact them, we've yet to have one ask to return their dog. |

4. I'm no hero but it's rare that the stray dogs I pick up are chipped.
Because I drive through an urban area every day I must find at least three or four dogs a year. Most just go right to rescue and foster. Most are probably better off with new homes anyway. It's almost a miracle to find a well loved pet on the approach to the Lincoln Tunnel.

5. Thanks for sharing!
Microchipping is one of the best things we can do for our dogs, no matter how carefully we watch them. Tragedies can happen. I can't afford a lot of things, but both my dogs are microchipped as well as spayed.
