Question. I have an asparagus fern that I brought inside last week.

I noticed that it had a lot of exposed roots with little oval nodules on them. Thinking that wasn't good, I covered everything with new potting soil. Now the plant looks bad with needles starting to yellow. It could be the inside heat and humidity, but I'm not sure.
What should I have done? And are those node things normal?

1. yup, normal root tubers.

it's one of the things that can make the plant challenging. it makes them tend to get root bound, but at the same time need even, regular watering and moist soil.

it's not unusual to have them drop a bunch of needles when they come in. that's one reason i dont put a lot of plants outside in the summer. the transition in and out causes enough stress that i always thought it came out a bit of a wash.

they like good humidity, so regular spraying helps.

good luck.

3. I've always grown these outside, but I lived in CA and now No. FL. May be colder where you are?

They don't like direct sun, especially not during the hot part of the day, but do like light, even if it's just some. I'd keep it away from drafts. If you have a covered porch where you could put the plant in sheltered place and cover if needed, it might be happier?

5. This plant actually was brought to NW Arkansas from south Florida by my sister in 2016. I

took it after her death. It's way too cold here to leave outside.

4. If you have a cat, be careful - they are very toxic to cats!

I gave mine away (my asparagus fern, not my cats) for that reason.
