groundhog to the rescue

My beautiful potted cucumbers started to wilt. Did some research: it's a virus, cucumber beetle.

I haz a sad.

Was going to go out this a.m. and pull them up and throw them in the trash (not the compost).

So I walked out this morning, ready to do the deed, and what did I find? Nothing.

The groundhog had paid an overnight visit and eaten them all up.

LOL. Saved me the trouble.

Only time a groundhog ever did me any favors.

Did the groundhog eat the cucumbers or the beetles? Or both?

I have a groundhog under my shed every winter. He's kinda cute.

He ate my kale leaves. He chomped down some red leaf lettuce. He didn't eat any tomatoes, but he did take a bite off the top of one young plant that has no tomatoes on it yet.

As far as the beetles go, I never saw any beetles on the plant, so I don't know for sure that it is a virus, but I'm pretty sure it is. Will have to start all over with cucumbers and enclose them in a plastic tent. Cucumber beetle is fatal and there's no cure.
