I've been doing for years. I don't know where I first learned to microwave corn in the husk, but it's been a great method, and so much better than, well, whatever the other methods are that I don't use anymore!

Now I have a better way to shuck them, though I still only microwave a single cob for 3.5 minutes

when she was in junior high. At that time she had a friend stay overnight and at 3:00 in the morning I awoke to the sound of screaming. I ran to the den and they were filming each other singing to music videos and literally screaming. They had been warned about noise many times so the next morning I got them up and made them shuck all the ears in a big bag of corn I had been given. They still talk about when I made them shuck corn.

slide it out from the bottom.

I will try that as soon as I get some corn.

Boiling corn = big pot to clean. Microwaving corn = no pot to clean. Score!

8 ears of corn and only one slid out so neatly. The rest did eventually slide out, but needed a lot of coaxing. Some needed being peeled from the bottom. Maybe it was because I roasted them on the grill instead of nuking them.

Once you got them out, though, yeah, the silk stayed in your hand and not on the corn.

I've only been doing corn on the cob microwaved for just a few years, but in my opinion, it's the best ever! Our microwave is 1,000 watts, and here's what I do.

Wet 1 cob in the husk thoroughly. Cook on a plate on high for 5 minutes, turning once halfway.
For 2 cobs, cook 7 minutes, turning once.

I don't cut the bottom of the cob - the wet husks and corn are moist, so they peel down easy and make a handy handle.

I just couldn't believe it could work like that. My first try actually came out better than the video. No more hassle of boiling water and putting all that moisture and heat into the kithcen. I've had an ear of corn 3 of the last 4 nights.

I hate to throw rain on the parade, but microwaves suck. My husband, who is in the food business, explained to me how they work. After hearing that, I thought, "I don't want to do that to my food!" Something about scrambling up and rupturing the molecules from the inside out. Didn't sound like the way things should be cooked.

Then I have this paranoid friend who thinks GMOs are going to kill her tomorrow, and who has to take to her bed from dining out because of all the preservatives they put in the food. I try to ignore her but she did send me some links to pages about microwaving that made me think it unsafe. If I could find them, I'd post them but I'd have to go through a zillion emails.

So I'm throwing my microwave out and looking forward to the additional storage space it will give me.
