1. Thanks!
I remember lots of exquisite detail regarding food, household chores, and work in the Little House books. Dye-ing white butter yellow with carrot scrapings and molding it, roasting a pig's tail on a stick in the fire as a snack. Pa coming home with panes of glass to make a window, Laura and Mary freaking out gleefully when he brought back popcorn from one long trip for supplies...

2. Laura & Mary arguing over what should go in stuffing, onion or sage? By the shores of Silver Lake
I haven't read those books since I was 10/12, and I remember my surprise that book characters argued like my sister & I did. And was it sage & onion?
Found it! I like both in my stuffing, but in the book, Pa never shot the goose for Thanksgiving. |

3. My Mom put sugar and milk in hot stewed tomatoes
and I liked that, but sugar and cream with raw tomatoes just doesn't sound right.
I've tried to duplicate her recipe, but no success so far. I think another ingredient was bread. |
