what's for dinner - saturday, august 2nd?

i'd planned on doing a pork roast today but pushed it back til tomorrow. the painkillers upset my stomach, so i'm leaning in a soupish direction. i'm thinking maybe chickpea and kale stew over rice.

happy weekend!

I'm doing a pork roast tomorrow - Going to coat it with spices, then cook low and slow. I have an eggplant which I will also probably roast, as that is my favorite way to do it.

We went to a friends for an early dinner tonight and had a wonderful feast out in the yard. It was like something out of a travel magazine. Amazing!

Feel better soon, my friend.

it's not anywhere near as bad as it could have been, but i suffer serious injury/illness so rarely that i just turn into a giant baby. husband also hasn't cleaned the kitchen this week, so i have to conquer dish mountain before i can cook.

i'm hoping my sister is planning on leaving her house today and can bring me some 7 up.

i want more detail on this feast!

to be in that kind of pain and not be able to do for yourself. And sometimes somebody needs to baby you, so I hope someone does soon (big hint to mr. fizzgig).

The feast was great. A big long table full of Italians of 4 generations all talking and gesticulating. Chicken and sausages being cooked in a big outdoor wood burning pizza oven. Stacks of fired eggplant with parmesan. I brought roasted leeks with buratta cheese (my current favorite cheese in the universe), and lots of delicious cold white wine.

Who could ask for anything more?

and i am oh so jealous.

i can only be so irritated with the husband, though. he does manual labor and put in nearly 60 hours this week. he just got home, laid on the living room floor and fell asleep without even taking off his boots. what he doesn't know is that he's cleaning up after his nap.

and a nap is starting to sound pretty nice right now, so i think i'm going to follow suit.

have a lovely rest of your evening, friend

quality time cuddling on the couch eating chinese food out of take out containers!

Oops! that's my idea of a great time, not yours, lol.

Take a nice nap and have a great evening.

The rest of them.

Not for dinner, but later I am roasting tomatoes and asparagus. Making roasted tomato sauce for the freezer. Roasted asparagus for salads.

Was at a huge vegetable market today and picked up the freshest looking red leaf lettuce ever. Also herbs like coriander and dill.

Salad. I have some tomatoes (grocery store ones) but they're not ripe yet.

Sorry to hear that the medication is giving you problems. I hope, at least, that it is helping with the pain.

on the grill, with a spicy BBQ sauce (OK, it's Trader Joe's KC style sauce, with Huy Fong chili-garlic sauce).

With leftover Mexican rice, and the last of the pinto beans (I love raw sweet onion atop the warmed beans).
